| Showed this article to my wife and her first reaction was "It's probably due to playing video games." My response was, if that were true why aren't there more of these situations? Probably half the people on this forum would then qualify as potential mass murderers! |

Nothing will fix this untill people are forced to take responsibility for what they do. We seriously need to go back to the "eye for an eye" theory of crininal punishment. If you stab someone to death, you die by the blade, if you suffocate someone, duct tape a pillow to the perps face untill they die. If you torture and rape someone, the same acts should be preformed on you. Blow a bunch of people up, strap C4 to there chest and set them in the middle of a field...........wait, not yet...........OK NOW! BOOM When there is serious punishment for serious crime only then will you see a change.

| What could the cause be? I'm not meaning to start any flaming here, but genuinely, I wonder why this sort of thing happens so frequently in the U.S.A. ? I know it must happen all over the world and in some cases probably doesn't get reported, but it hasn't yet happened here, thank goodness. Why would a 17 year old possibly want to murder, maime and traumatize fellow students? I can understand that in some cases kids are victimised at school, that happens the world over. Some times kids get beaten up or get into brawls, sure. But making bombs? I'm not even going to get into the whole gun thing, because it will just cause an endless argument. Any word on this kid's parents? Family? What sort of background does he come from? I do believe that in many cases the kid's upbringing will have played a significant role in his desire to do this sort of thing. Anyway, I'm glad they caught him and this time nobody got hurt. They need to set a precedent and come down really heavily on this guy. All this talk of being a minor and therefore a rap on the knuckles is BS! Anyone who's old enough to seriously plot and execute a method of mass murder is old enough for severe punishment. Oh and one more thing...does anyone seriously believe that even a 5 year old, let alone a 17 year old, would get down to making bombs and taking a rifle to school just because he plays violent video games?

| Although I do not believe it justifies such actions, I do believe that violent TV, movies, and videogames do contribute to this attitude. I say that even though most everyone here knows I like FPS and TPS games. The situation here is that I have a different foundation (Christian) from which I operate. Someone with a bad foundation (abusive environment, no discipline or responsibility, no sense of right and wrong--just what works for you, etc.) will not feel as compelled to "follow the rules." Such a person can get ideas (or influence) from sources like TV, movies, and video games and decide to act things out since there is nothing else in their value system or worldview to restrain it. |
