| Hello everyone. Now that it is summer and with my a/c(s) running, I can see just how much the electricity in my home tends to fluctuate as the a/c compressor cycles. Also, living in Long Island, NY, I have read about the possibility of rolling brownouts this summer. (Welcome to the 21st century!) Could I get some recommendations on a good UPS? Thank you much! |

| Two months ago, I decided being so close the major source of rolling black-outs that I better get a UPS. I got a 700 watt IBM Office Pro for only $90 new at Circuit City (don't know if you find something this good - it had two rebates on it). You probably should not consider anything less that 700 watt. I tested my UPS by simply unplugging the power to the computer. I was amazed about how there was not even a flicker and the whole PC and monitor continued to run. If you go with something smaller you might face a problem with the monitor taxing the UPS so hard that you might still lose enough power to kill the computer's ability to continue to run. BTW: most UPS even supply a modem protector (i.e. if you still use a modem). |
