I had to do a test drive this morning for the surgeon. I can speak, but only when necessary.
No voice-over work, though.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

That's good things are moving along TQ - when I had spine surgery they had to move my voicebox over to get at it, in the process weakening my voice.
The kids loved it as I couldn't yell anymore...

Seeing how you make at least part of your living with your voice I hope it returns to normal for you.

Very happy to hear the latest news!

When the voice is out of order, even partly, I always advocate using a Harpo Marx-esque horn and honking it whenever necessary.

My lifespan would be greatly attenuated. You do know that I'm going through all this stuff to extend it as long as possible, yes?

Thumbs up Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

I was hoping for an update on this. I'm glad everything went well, and I hope your throat recovers quickly. Hopefully you got some good drugs out of the deal. No brain, no pain.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Another painful night last night. Since my surgery was scheduled so late in the day (7pm) I couldn't eat anything from the previous night. And since my appetite's consistency has taken a beating over the last many weeks the last thing I needed - just as it was beginning to return to a sense of normalcy - was another kick in the gut. After going well over a day without eating it's just vanished again, not a good thing seeing as how I have chemo on Tuesday.
The hard part is since my stomach is empty it just ties itself in knots and becomes very painful. Even my dreams last night (when I was able to sleep) were about pain.

I need some information on how to stimulate the appetite during chemotherapy, a problem I didn't have in 2006.

Time to do some searching.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

TQ -- A Google search of "maintaining appetite" (with the quotes) + "chemotherapy" returns some results that suggest to me that you should ask your medical team if they can prescribe some drugs.

A lot of the following relates to women undergoing chemo for breast cancer, including treatment with 5FU, but the anti-nausea/appetite maintaining properties of these drugs I would suspect could very well be applicable to your situation as well.

http://www.bdjpharmacol.com/journalbdps0201/020113.pdf

Ondansetron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Domperidone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ("Domperidone is a first choice anti-emetic in most countries, together with metoclopramide. It is however not approved for prescription in the US").

Metoclopramide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Google results also suggest another "drug" that most likely would be effective, but that is not available in most areas via official prescription.

Hope that helps,
-- Al
