| Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back... I'm a bit stronger this morning and hopefully on the way to getting my primary source of pain somewhat (crossing my fingers) manageable. Long story short since strength is at a premium: since my last treatment my stomach and appetite has been totally out of whack. Actually, it was whacked the day I had my throat surgery as the procedure had been scheduled late in the day, forcing me to go over twenty four hours without eating. Ever since that it's been bad. Forward to a conversation I had with my mother - an endoscopic surgery nurse at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont (yes, she’s still working) - which took place two days ago. She pointed out that what had likely happened is that the ulceration of the tumor had recurred and even though I was able to eat - I was eating soft foods such as chicken noodle soup, crackers, and broths, as well as some high citric acid drink additives - the high salt content in these foods were likely adding to my woes. I spoke with Mrs. TQ about this and she said take some Rolaids. I did and in fifteen minutes much of the pain had subsided. I took another does of my painkiller elixir shortly after that and I was literally pain free for a good hour. Taking the Rolaids before I went to bed last night allowed me to sleep a good four hours. I had to get up and have more with a glass of milk at ten and went back to sleep for another two. Repeated the process and had a bite to eat of salt-free chicken broth with white rice after midnight and slept a few more hours. I even ate some steak last night and enjoyed it. Not a lot but it was something. I will call Dr. Ho this morning and have him call me today so we can have a discussion about this. Just before my throat surgery my ulceration had stopped hurting me completely. If I can return to this state I will consider that a great victory. I also need to get out and walk more to alleviate the atrophy in my bed-ridden muscles. So, some good news I think.

| Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back... Thanks for the update, TQ. Sounds like you should probably be taking a prescription antacid on a regular basis. Something to ask the doctor about when you speak with him today. Continued good wishes, of course. Best, -- Al

| Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back... Hey bud, good to hear you are still with us and staying strong. The only issue with a constant antacid regime is that it weakens your stomach acids, making digestion of foods more diffcult. You definitely don't want to be doing that since you need your sustanance. If it can be avoid I would. I read an article in a health magazine that stated that as we get older, our stomach acid isn't as strong compared to when you are in your 20-30's. I don't know if that holds water or not, but it could be another concern for taking constant antacids.

| I'm stressin out, sounds like there's some potential for some bad news. I can't imagine what you're going through. All I can say is my thoughts are with you, and hope you get some good news soon. Sounds like you're going through hell right now. I WISH there was a way I could help to carry your burden, but unfortunately, all I can offer are words of encouragement. I just HOPE this support we offer over the net can give you some extra strength in your fight. You hang in there, you dig deep and find the strength to beat this thing!!! ![]() |
