Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Excellent thoughts and advice, Cogar, which I'm glad TQ is pursuing.

Although certainly a substantial part of the weight loss is muscle mass, due to damage control processes as well as less than normal physical activity, based on TQ's posts during the last couple of months about loss of appetite, pains triggered by eating, etc., I would also think that a substantial part of it is due simply to inadequate caloric intake.

Muscle is basically built from proteins, and in response to exercise, as everyone most likely realizes. Under normal circumstances, protein intake should be around 15% of total calories. I have no idea what that figure should be under these circumstances, but I think it would be a good question to ask the doctors.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

I had a good conversation with the owner of the place we visited. I wound up choosing a product called Cytosport Muscle Milk. One thing I always craved during my first go round with cancer was high protein foods and I ate a lot of them.
We'll see if this supplement helps. I'm drinking some right now - it has a pleasant vanilla taste - but I made it a bit too thin. I'll double up the dose next time I make a shake.

Very likely. Hopefully the Cytosport will give me the boost I need to begin to get my weight back up.

Muscle Milk is a good (and popular) product--and sort of a "bulk" version of the meal replacement products that come in packets (although it does have a higher fat content). I hope it works well for you.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Spent all day yesterday in bed...the third day of chemo is always the worst. Consequently I am as weak as a new born kitten and I'd lay odds it would beat me in arm wrestling.
The double whammy of the bronchial infection and the chemo has really done a number on me.
Should be better tomorrow, though...

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

It must be tougher then I can imagine, for you and your family. Well I sure pray you strength, and that you will have victory in this war, that's raging in your body. I want to see you restored whole, and with good health to your family my friend. My prayers won't stop until I see that very victory. I'm no push over either. I grew up on the streets. I would guess fought more fist fights then anyone I've ever heard of, and won most. Was a hunter, fished, lifted weights, ran, bicycled, mountain climbed, still weigh what I should for my height. And If I had to guess I most likely could still kick few men's butts my age. I still walk, run a little, and exercise daily. I also spent a great deal of my life studying the Bible. outside of any man made religion. I'm a good neighbor, respected, and yes I tell my friends and most my neighbors that I love them. And I show it in my life and actions towards them. Just as I do here, I am what I am whether here on the Zone or in real life. I've been through hell here on earth.
recovered alcoholic, recovered gambler, homeless at one time. heart bypass and heart disease survivor. The the Zones Sir Skully/knight, poet, PC guru, music I enjoy, flower gradening, most of all is looking straight in a friends and family eyes and saying I love you, or smiling at strangers, helping others on their life's spiritual journey, and all sorts of good things. These are all the things and much more, that's made me who I am today. I'm man enough to get down on my knees before my Lord and pray. to enjoy flowers, poetry, love, and helping lift others spirits, here at the Zone and in real life. Why I write this now is to let you know a wee bit about Sir Skully. The hell I've been through and may go through again. It will be done knowing that my Lord's Spirit is sealed on my heart. And He Christ Jesus is my strength. It all has worked for my good. Its made me a far better person for it. A fine instrument is put through the fire many times. You'll come out of this hellish fire a better person my friend, and come out of it you will. Yes in the Spirit I love you and your family. The Spirit is love and is eternal. The flesh is as a flower that blooms in the morning, then is wilted by the hot afternoon sun.
Quite a go on here for me, just felt led to put this down, and so it stands.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Feeling stronger this afternoon, though I just noticed that I've got some major swelling in my neck. I've called my ENT doc to see if I can get in for a visit.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Good to hear you're feeling stronger ***TQ***and the neck, I hope the doc can get the swelling in your neck reduced. It sounds like inflammation. I'm sure your doc will know how best to treat it.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

I just got back from my second STAT CTSCAN in two weeks. The doctor found two "masses" (not there when I had surgery) that needed to be looked at.
We'll know more on Monday when we get the results.

Where are they located? Hopefully they and the swelling you saw on your neck are just lymph nodes that swelled in response to the infection.

My best, as always.
