It sucks that you have cancer again, but good luck, I hope you get through this.

Me thinks you need to visit House Starbucks, for some beans of java.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

All I can say is GOOD LUCK, cancer is terrible! I lost a cousin to cancer, and he wasn't much older than I am. He'd just been married when he got the news, his wife I think knew before the rest of the family. I think they got married because he knew he was going to die. We weren't real close, but of my cousins, we enjoyed each other's company more than the others, and I got along OK with his wife (which is more than I can say for some of the other women that married into our family). His was in the other end though, butt it's still not good. The cancer treatment place (dunno what the actual name of the palce was, but it wasn't a conventional hospital) was playing on the grief of my aunt trying to milk her for every penny they could, thus making her beg the rest of the family for $$$. It was a BAD time for the whole family, the treatment WOULD NOT have had any hope of curing him, just prolonging his life, therefore his misery, and taking $$$ that SHOULD have been put toward her retirement. It didn't seem to be very effective, so the rest of the family decided not to fund it for various reasons. I just didn't see the point in letting him suffer any longer, and he DID NOT WANT the treatment. Unfortunately, due to some legal wrangling, he wasn't able to decide on his own course of treatment. So, now her retirement isn't going to be what it should, he's still dead, some quack doctor, and a greedy cancer hospital were the benificiaries. The $$$ she spent on that serpant lubricant treatment would have made for a NICE retirement, things like that should be illegal.

Anyways, good luck, hopefully the conventional treatment can kill the cancer. Sounds like you've got good odds, and it's not as bad as it could be. Stay positive, sounds like you're doing OK as far as that goes. It helps that you can eat with the chemo, at least your body still has fuel to burn for a recovery. I'm not religeous, but my thoughts are with you. You've got a LOT of stress ahead of you regardless of the outcome, it helps to manage it well. Games, and some other activities can help with that IMMENSELY. Not to mention daily activities that you can still do, but don't wear yourself out.

Don't let my little story above deter you from investigating alternative treatments, SOME actually work. BEWARE if they start out telling you it's not going to cure it, but it can make the remainder of your life better. BEWARE if it's stupidly expensive, and there's little science to support it. BEWARE if they start playing mental games with your wife. Just DON'T allow your family to go through what ours did with some scam artist alternative treatment center. There are some real shady places out there that play on the emotions of others.

That's what is interesting: it's not a conventional treatment. I'll be continuing with the same triple-decker chemo cocktail that worked for me when I was in the clinical trial back in 2006. It's still a unique combination you can get only at M.D. Anderson.

Re: Well, dang...the cancer's back...

Mrs. TQ just ordered a very nice HP laptop for me to use while on those marathon Houston chemo sessions.
I'd go bonkers if I had to hang solo in a hotel with no way of checking email, working on audio files or hanging out at ABX.

Likely, I'll be on chemo for about six months. Because we're getting a new GSP puppy in a month it means that she'll need to stay home with him until he's old enough to be boarded - which is six months or when he has all his shots. For me that means I'll be spending lots of two-nighters in Houston and not being able to stay in touch with business and pleasure would make a hardship that much more difficult. The laptop will alleviate that and besides, it's a business expense.
