Any Tips on moving from Win98SE to XP Pro?

Hi guys, I finally got my copy of WinXP Pro today (Full Legit Version with full license for $6 from my University )
I am currently running Win98SE.
What are the steps I should take before doing a clean install of XP?

A. Does this sound good?
1. Backup any existing data
2. Format HardDrive from MS-Dos mode
3. Boot from WinXP Pro CD
4. Install XP

B. Once WinXP installed:
1. Install Device Drivers, DirectX, VIA 4-in-1 drivers
2. Set-up internet/LAN conn.
3. Download SP1
4. Anything else?

Are the above steps (A and B) correct? Is there anything else I should know about NTFS? What would you guys recommend? Do I need a boot-disk?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks,
Olivier

No boot-disk necessary - the winXP Pro cd is a boot disk itself. Through there you can reformat your computer (do it that way as opposed to DOS).

Make sure you run the hardware/software support test BEFORE installing XP - its a little program on the cd that will tell if you if your current hardware and software will be supported in WinXP.

Oh - download the detonator drivers for your GeForce4 - dont use the standard drivers that come with the WinXP cd.

Ok thanks guys, I'll do that...
If you think of anything else, please post it...I don't want to go through a win98-to-winXP nightmare

If you have graphics card don't forget to get latest versions of the drivers. I actually like to get latest versions of drivers for all my hardware. DL them and burn them to a CD and then install them before any software with a clean install.

After you get it working make a image of your drive! Saves you some time if you ever have to re-install XP again!

Direct X 8.1 comes with XP

Just use the default drivers for XP until you get everything rolling.

Don't format in DOS mode, Just pop in the XP disk and do a full format, not a quick one.
