| read First off are you having problems with your USB ports? If not then leave them alone and don't worry about it, This is normal in Windows 2000. If they will not work then you must turn off acpi to change the irq. Check your bios first to make sure they are enabled correctly. go into device manager under the computer icon, driver and pick update driver and pick standard PC, this will put all devices on there own irq. but your pc will no longer turn itself off. You will have to user the power button. This is not Recommended but it should work. You should not have to do this. good luck |

| Helo again Howard, you are the busy one. No I am not having problems with my USB ports. But I am having problems with is printing from PhotoShop through my USB ports. I scan fine and I print otherwise OK. Just that when I try to print large files, I get a scratch disk error and lose communication between my USB and my printer. This is why I am trying to persue the other posting I have going with the FTDISK error. I was wondering if the printing function needs the scratchdisk capability. I received an E-Mail from Epson today indicating the the printer does not use a scratch disk. Thank you though for you response once again..

| Bert, Could you inform us a little more, In your post --"11 devices sharing IRQ". I can read 8 devices. What are the remainder 3 devices ? Why Adaptec AHA-3940 SCSI Card shares 2 x IRQ 9 ? I visited Adaptec site to check AHA-3940 out, unfortunately I couldn't find out the card name and specifications. Is this SCSI Card compatible to your Win2K OS ? My SCSI Cards(in other PC Box, i820 chip based & ServerWorks LE III chip based ) always shares 1 x IRQ 9. Do you have "Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443 in your IRQ 9 or 10 ? (See my previous post) |

| Hello again THat, My AHA-3940 card is a dual SCSI card. That is why I get 2 IRQs. I am considering removing that card and taking out the Ultra-Wide 2gig drive out, and putting a lighter Adaptec card just for my CD and CDRW. I think I have a 2920. I do not see the IRQ10 Intel (R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus controller - 2443 You mentioned. Is this a USB controller ??

| Hi Bert, Yes, I think it's a good idea pulling out yr SCSI Card from yr system and boot, see what happen for IRQ sharing. (Especially IRQ 9) My IRQ 10 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443 is System Management Bus Controller. When I install the latest Chip*.inf (v.2.80.8) in my i815e/ep based machines, this shares IRQ9 and/or 10 from my experience. You already have USB Controllers(2442 & 2444, same as me) in IRQ 9 list. Try SCSI Card pull out, and install i815e ChipInf Utility(v2.80.8) again. If you don't feel so much pain, it's recommendable re-install your dual boot or Win2K from scratch. http://developer.intel.com/design/mo...a/ea_drive.htm Intel recommends "Important!! For initial operating system installations, Load this INF Utility first !!" Good luck |

| Related problem trouble shooting can anyone help? I have been helping a friend out. I installed a Gforce 4 mx 440 vid card and a soundblater Audigy 2 sound card. The Mobo is a PC Chips has a Athlon 1.6 gig processor, 512mb ram. onboard lan, 2 hard Drives, 350 watt power supply with. It keeps restarting and giveing an error that an unknown driver had a problem. I have tryed everything to fix it to no avail. She read something about a graphic card IRQ conflict would cause the same sort of problem and she said she has it on IRQ 11 with 4 other devices of which I am not sure of. By the way this is windows XP Pro. Can anyone help me with a solution or point me in the direction I need to go. ![]() |

| I have a similar situation. Virtually all of my devices are on irq 9 (graphics, sound, network, usb). I haven't had any problems except for one game which seems to be having trouble with certain textures causing serious graphical slowdown. I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128meg which should easily be able to cope with this (friends with lesser cards are having no problems). It has been suggested that maybe the irq conflicts are the root of the problem. The slowdown only started appearing after I installed dx9. XP won't let me change the irq so I've tried assigning each slot an individual irq but this is not making a difference in windows. Do I have to reinstall the drivers to pick up the new irq settings? Is there another way of changing irq? Is it probable that the irq conflict is not the cause of my problem at all? Thanks in advance. |

| Having most/all of your PCI devices on one IRQ is fairly typical. I'd suggest reading the following link before worrying too much more about the IRQs as your problem. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314068 Unfortunately, your USB printing problem is rather unusual. It's not clear if your system is all SCSI or if you have an IDE HD, but I'd try moving the swapfile to an IDE drive if you can. That would at least narrow the problem down a bit and help determine if there's some strange incompatibility with the SCSI adapter. Endaar

| I havn't messed with IRQ's but I have read you should be careful messing with them its best if you can to let windows assign them because if you reasign them you take away windows ability to asign them. Setting IRQ's is something that was done more so in earlier versions of windows and not so much today check in your device manager to see if there are any conflicts.
