i have a tweaking question

I am running XP Pro w/SP1 on my puter(most specs in sig.) and i am sortof conductiong a survey on boot times.

I want to know how quickly other peoples computers boot andwhat they did if they have good boot times.

My takes between 45 seconds to a minute and i don't have anything other than what is neccessary for startup when windows opens (i.e. no messenger, winamp, etc.) I understand my computer probably wont startup in like 20 seconds, but if i could shave 10secs. off teh time i would be happy. I have ran bootvis and i didn't see any improvements.

Also does anyone know what services are required to run all the time in the background and which ones can be disabled

OK I'll let you keep the poll but the other identical post is going to be removed. Asking the same question in different threads puts all the answers in too many places when only one is needed.

I used BootVis to reduce my boot time.

Oh and... I boot up in 35 seconds from hitting the power button until XP is totally loaded and ready. I have a PCI IDE controller that takes around 5-7 seconds in there to detect the HDD too.

under 30 seconds, but more than 20

At one time it took 19 sec. from power button to desktop.
(umm...gotta get around to to reinstalling Windows. )

Win98SE, PIII800EB, CUSL2 - complete specs in my profile.

I tweaked everything possible and have absolutely nothing running at startup. (ctl-alt-del reveals only systray & explorer)

I have a list of tweaks somewhere because I can't remember them all.

Had my boot time down to < 10s from power button... Ahh, how I yearn for the days of DOS again!... now it's all upwards of 35s for xp pro to load. I know a RAID0 would help me out, but I don't want to put in the cash right now.

Take my system arround 15-20 sec's to cold boot. Try'ed Bootvis but found that most of the services hadn't loaded by the time the desktop had appeared, and that seemed to cause a few problems. I just keep the disk defraged and keep an eye on whats loading at startup.
