| Java Virtual Machine For those who don't want to download SP1 and cannot get the Microsoft VM, does anyone know if the Java Virtual Machine from Sun Microsystems would cause any with Windows XP See the link: http://java.sun.com/getjava/ Thanks. Is this version better than Microsoft's? |

| I don't like the way Sun's version leaves Java in the system tray. Otherwise, it works fine.

| I installed it on my one of my client machine and it was very unstable. Doesn't work all the time though.. If you can download the winxp version then it would be better.

However you can turn off the coffe in the sys tray in the control panel me thinks I had my wife almost fail a test because I change over to Sun's version and the Web page didn't support it. Went back to MS, and it worked fine..

| We all like to bash Microsoft, but the fact is that these days most of their stuff just plain works...... ..... even if it takes a patch or two! And Sun screwed everyone around on Java so much it isn't funny. Didn't they sue MS when they included Java in Win98, then sued them again for trying to leave it out of WinXP? |

| sure they sued, but they did it because MS was changing the specs on Java. As SUN says "Microsoft attempted to kill the Java market by distributing its own incompatible JVM implementation" And I agree with that statement. One of the great thing about java was suppose to be it's universal compatibility on all platforms, and MS intentionally tried to screw with that. Against SUN's licence. Later they used that lawsuit as an excuse to leave it out of XP, which also was unfair to SUN... just look at this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/28448.html they are just plain scared of it.... they wanne push their own C# or .NET or whatever... and try to kill Java. what do you mean Sun screwed everyone around ???? it's just trying to defend itself. |

| Microsoft has every right to not include a 3rd party product in their operating system! Besides, you can download Java for FREE from http://java.sun.com/ Sun did have a legitimate complaint when Microsoft modified it without permission. Of course, Microsoft's version does seem faster and more stable. Note: you can disable the coffee cup icon by deselecting Show Java icon in system tray in the Java plug-in control panel |

| You can use both JVMs, the Microsoft one and whatever one you might like to use from SUN. There is an IE switch to flip between them. Be aware however that Microsoft DOES NOT support their JVM anymore (execpt for perhaps a security patch) and it is a very old version of Java and some newer client side java code will not work with it. I know this because we develop Java code for our own use where I work and also use applications written by 3rd parties as well. The Microsoft JVM is frozen at an old level and won't be updated. |

| Microsoft's JVM is faster and more stable then Sun's JVM. Kinda ironic. Also IBM makes a nice JVM as well which is comparable to MS's JVM. |
