Lost the search function

Hi everyone. I seem to have lost the search function on my computer. I click start-search, and get the window to open, but it is blank. Sure hope someone can help me figure this one out. Running XP Home on an Athlon 64 3500+ machine. Thanks for your time. Rick

Re: Lost the search function

Go to control panel, taskbar and start menu, click on start menu tab, customize, click on advanced tab and look for the search and check the box. Apply and you should be good to go.

Re: Lost the search function

Hi zman88. Ok, Checked out your suggestion, but if it matters, I never get any kind of error message alert things--simply the empty search window. Anyway, it seems the fix you suggest only works on a machine with SP1. I tried other things there tho, still with no luck. Oh and perhaps I should mention, I can search the internet ok, it's just the windows search thing--with the lil dog, that doesn't work. In fact tho, I have been fighting this for a couple weeks now, reading advice on other forums, trying lots of fixes to no avail. Would it be possible to simply run that repair option from the install disk? And I wouldn't have a problem with reinstalling windows, long as I don't lose all my stuff. Thanks for the help. Rick

Re: Lost the search function

Bummer! Go ahead and run the repair from the xp disc then. You shouldn't lose anything important ,But. How to repair Windows XP/2000 if you are unable to boot into Windows - TechSpot OpenBoards

Re: Lost the search function

Is the Search button on the toolbar in Explorer? Like if you open My Computer?
