Ms Sp-3?

Is this really needed if I already have SP-1 and SP-2?
Thanks,

Re: Ms Sp-3?

Assuming you already have all the critical updates which followed SP2, I'm not sure it's "needed"; however I put it on all 3 of my XP Pro boxes and there was no harm done.

Re: Ms Sp-3?

SP3 isn't really necessary on a current installation. For people who are still installing XP on new hardware, a slipstreamed XP SP3 install disc can cut down the post-configuration time considerably since there's no need to download several YEARS worth of updates.

It's ok - the only problem I have is the my wife's XP Home SP3 no longer can see my shares on XP Pro SP3, and I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me what the problem is

Re: Ms Sp-3?

I read SP3 provided for a better performance on XP, but I am unsure on the fact that those performance things ever have been available as patches on Windows Update. So I will anyway update an XP SP2 with all post SP2 updates to SP3.

Re: Ms Sp-3?

If your having trouble with the sp3 update I would definitely recomend doing a clean instal with sp3 predownloaded prior to starting.

I've had significantly less issue with it this way.
Just get through installing all your needed hardware drivers first, then do it.
For me it whent off without a hitch. It even solved some of the issues I was having.

And if your not ready to spend the time with a clean instal, just wait until your due. No big deal to have at this time. But you are going to need it eventually.

Slpstreaming would be the ideal.

Re: Ms Sp-3?

From my experience, I can tell you that SP3 has increased performance on PCs upgraded from SP2. It's also nice to have a slipstreamed SP3 CD handy for fresh installs as there are over 100 security updates after SP2 was first released. This is very time consuming especially when you do lots of fresh installs (like we do at work).
