| Installing a network card and would like to free up an IRQ. Geforce AGP, SBLive,Dxr3 Decoder,3Com PCI modem USB - mouse, printer, scanner have disabled parallel port - should i install a USB hub and unplug the second USB riser - also is the SB16 support only used for old dos games? i am a gamer but play nothing very old. One last question - what advantage is there to running win2k instead of win98SE, i was given a copy of win2k pro for xmas. thanks, mark |

| Yup Win2k is the way to go. Make sure you install the Win2k SP1 and DirectX 8a since this will give you the latest updates and best performance in games. As for IRQ's you don't have to worry about them in Win2k as it is done/shared automatically! If you need the extra USB ports, install them. I did since I needed the extra ports. |

| Yes, install Win2k, it shares irq's very well. Lockups are seldom with Win2k and this mobo.

| You do not need the SB16 emulation... Disable that. That should free up an IRQ... As for Windows 2000, you will have no IRQ problems with that. You'll find all your PCI devices will share IRQ9. The only thing is... Some of your games might not work well in Windows 2000. More and more games are coming out that run very well under Windows 2000, but some of the older games don't seem to work very well. So if you know your games work under Windows 2000, give it a shot... Just remember that you're guaranteed that any games you have will work great under Win98SE, but that isn't true of 2000. jafo Quote:

| Just a quick note to say thanks for all your advice and time.. I think im going to give win 2000 a shot next week. If it doesnt work out i can always reinstall win98SE or wait for whistler. Plus we have cable internet heading this way soon and i understand Win2k handles high speed access better then win98.. Thanks Again, Mark |

| Make sure you do a clean install of Win2k. Do not upgrade from 98. That usually leads to trouble.
