Need help with crash problem. Should be an easy solution.

I reinstalled my WinXPPro last month, and from time to time it crashes whenever I shut it down, or access drives other than C:\ in Windows Explorer. The explorer.exe crashes, then only wallpaper is shown, after which the desktop view is restored back to normal. I remember there was a Windows 2000 Resource Kit application which would give the name of an application (or maybe hardware) of what the address belonged to, but I can't remember its name or command perimeters. Can anyone help me out here?

P.S. The error message recorded in the Event Viewer (under Applications) was: Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.3156, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0390ceb0.
