No Icons/start menu in XP?? need help!

A good friend has problem? Only boots to desktop picture-no icons/start menu? Yesterday I booted to last good known config thru safe mode and then ran McAfee which found a few files which it deleted and quarnteened 1, then it all seemed fine . Hooked it up at his house-OK. then I uninstalled old McAfee to install new Norton A/V but then upon reboot..it went back to just a desktop picture I can't seem to get anywhere with this machine! What is going on????TIA!

Sounds like explorer.exe isn't starting. Try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Esc, opening Task Manager and checking if explorer.exe is running in the task list. If not, then try run it through there - File/New Task (Run...).

I believe I got it! Seems they had this Logitech wireless mouse that was the culprit? I removed it and everything seems to be working/booting just fine now-Yeah!

Nice to hear that everything is back working. Lol who would have thought about that the mouse was the culprit.
