Stupid WGA questions

Sorry about my ignorance. I looked through the other WGA threads and none seemed right for my questions. so far I've allowed WGA to install and call home like a good little M$ sheep but today windows update seemed to install something else WGA related and then promptly wanted to call home. I allowed it. What happens if I tell my firewall not to allow WGA to call home? What breaks? Also I consistently image using Acronis True Image. What's to keep me from imaging back to before WGA and turning off automatic updates. Supposedly there are ways to manually load critical updates of your choosing but till now I've been too lazy to pursue it. Is this a good idea? I own three PCs and three legitimate copies of XP Pro and this is ticking me off. Why should WGA have to keep reporting on me. Once my copy of XP is judged to be legitimate, in theory, what then is it going to report? Sorry for ranting but any input would be appreciatted!

Just do a backup from your images and download Belarc security advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

It'll not only tell you what updates your missing, It will point out any other security holes your system has..

When belarc tells you that you need an update, you just click on the link (in belarc) and it'll take you to the MS bulletin for that update, all you have to do is click home user or IT guy link and download the update....
