System won't shut down

I installed XP Pro with sp3 on a friend's system along with a few games, Nero and some other apps. Played NFS Prostreet all weekend with no issues.

He takes it home and installs a scanner, printer, some Sony app for his camera, google earth, dvdfab and a few others.

He called me and says he can't shut it off ... it just keeps rebooting when he tries.

What could have happened ?

He is clicking on shutdown and not restart?

Next try DiskDoctor or some other disk and/or registery fixer utility.

Go back to the last ghost image.

What could have happened? Don't know. Possibly a installer reboot routine got stuck. Scanner, printer, and Sony apps aren't the cleanest most efficiant installs. Re-installing might clean them up if the first install routine failed to properly close itself out.

Re: System won't shut down

I wonder if the CCleaner would help ...

I remember seeing an option for the registry in there.

I wonder if that's what's keeping my Vista machine from going to sleep normally. I don't usually load the mouse drivers, but I did this time around.

Re: System won't shut down

Uninstall all softwares installed after good conditions, try to install some basic drivers.

If still not work, reinstall your windows.

Then read all manuals about install of every applications you want to install, and slowly test.
