Trouble installing XP

Hi, i've been using Vista for a while now, but would like to go back to XP. I am now having so much trouble trying to get XP installed it's unreal. I am using genuine install disks and also tried slipstreamed discs, all have worked on this machine in the past. The main problems i'm having are ACPI related, but when I disable ACPI the system BSOD's on me saying BAD_POOL_HEADER i was wondering if it is a software issue, or could it be that my system is on it's way out? The system is as in my sig. It's the same with the old 6800 graphics card that i'd used in the past as with the new card. As I say, Vista installs no problem so it doesn't make sense to me. I've never had such trouble with XP in the past. On the one time I did get XP installed they system wouldn't shutdown and/or was unable to reboot.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats normal behaviour, you cannot change that setting after windows is installed, have to set it to what you want before you install.

Re: Trouble installing XP

Have tried using a number of different cd's. The original microsoft disc looks ok, and has worked in the past with no problems. I've also tried numerous slipstreamed discs, so don't think it's a problem with the discs themselves.

I have tried using the F6 text mode drivers and also by slipstreaming them in the installation - still no joy.

I have also tried installing XP from fresh after disabling ACPI.

Re: Trouble installing XP

Maybe try fomatting and setting up the HD's with the WD digital utility. If the WD is where you are trying to install.

Re: Trouble installing XP

take your computer to manufactr's repair shop.

check bios.

if bios ok, clear cmos.

buy a restore card.

restore card protect your bios.

check your computer manual, it support windows xp, or vista?

Re: Trouble installing XP

Sorry, going to have to disagree with you there traveler and zman88, but this is a driver issue. Microsoft doesn't have to change how they do things, driver manufacturers have to stop being lazy in making their drivers. Service Pack 2 put a tonne of restrictions in place over what SP1 ever did, thus drivers that were loosy - goosy prior to SP2 are bound to break.

So, as for the BAD_POOL_HEADER issue. Can you boot to safe mode and review the Event Viewer loggings? This should give us a clue as to what's going on and with which driver.

I would be willing to bet things were running just fine prior to introducing drivers into the system.

Which service pack are you running when you install the drivers? After which driver do you get the error?

And why disable ACPI anyways?
