UPS or Imaging S/W??? I recently changed my system to a RAID 0 setup. I am wanting to provide protection against any data loss/OS corruption due to a power outage, etc., so my question is what would be better: buying a UPS or purchasing something like Acronis True Image. My pc is not on 24/7 but on usually in the evenings so I power down each day. The system is used mostly for gaming and web browsing and I do have another hdd for data backup. Just curious what others are doing. TIA for any info. And is the Acronis package a pretty good choice for system imaging. Last edited by Razorback : 06-21-2004 at 08:45 AM.

You need both really, Razorback. They are both essential tools. Backups are obvious, and crashes occur for reasons unrelated to power, but a UPS does more than simply prevent crashes from power - it also conditions the power during brownouts, power spikes, etc.

I agree...spend the money (its not much) and get both. A good UPS AND Imaging software (I use Acronis too). UPS will protect you, electrically, but what if there is another problem that causes your hard drive to crash or become corrupt? Imaging software would take care of that while the UPS wouldn't do squat.
