It probably defaults to IE and possibly can't be switched to use another browser. Monopoly bustin'.

I'm confused. What are we talking about here -- the Windows taskbar at the bottom, or the IE url/address bar, or something else?

The address bar on the taskbar ..
I'm confused too, I have no idea what that would be a concern of the US dept of justice...
I wonder what other changes they demanded?

Re: US Department Of Justice Removes Address Bar in XP SP3

What address bar on the taskbar? The taskbar in XP has a start button, some clickable boxes for any programs that may be open, and the systray area. I'm still confused!

Regards,
-- Al

Edit: Or is this referring to the address bar (that shows url's) that appears just above the taskbar when a browser program is open, which shows the url of a link that is pointed to?

Right click your taskbar, go to toolbars, and you can elect to have an address bar, RIGHT ON YOUR TASKBAR. I must admit, I've never really seen anyone use this.

Re: US Department Of Justice Removes Address Bar in XP SP3

Thanks Zsaz; now I see. I had never noticed that before, remarkably. Actually, when I do that all that happens is that the word "address" appears to the left of the systray area; it doesn't turn into an actual address bar until I also click some other entry in that same list, such as Windows Media Player or ITunes. It then remains as an address bar even if I uncheck the other entry. Strange.

I too have no idea why the DOJ would care about that, beyond kONGO's suggestion, which I think very well may be the reason.

Regards,
-- Al

OK .... There's an address bar there and a GO button next to it. What address would I type in there?

It's likely just because you have your taskbar locked. If you unlock it, and drag the separator over, you'll have the whole address bar.
