| Weirdest problem I've ever had....need help! No new h/w or s/w installed (except latest itunes), but for some reason when I start the pc, I have no access to icons or start button until I do ctrl-alt-del to task manager. Then I have to click somewhere in taskman, then I no longer have access to that window (it freezes), so I have to press ctrl-alt-del again, then taskman window becomes unfrozen, and I can close it and then I have access to icons and such. I tried a system restore to a day previous that I know didn't have that problem, to no avail. Ran virus and spy ware scans also. Anyone seen this before?

| That is weird, did you try to uninstall itunes since that was the last thing you installed? |

| Sounds freaky. Maybe, what keyboard and mouse are you using? Do you have any special software or drivers installed for these (like Logitech Software)? On my rig those tend to make cause trouble sometimes. Greetings Dru

| Haven't uninstalled itunes yet cause I've been using it since july w/no prob. Been using G5 mouse and G15 k/b for over a year, no prob. Forgot to add that sometimes my desktop icons cannpt be moved around to different places. Please keep in mind that I'm fairly computer literate and I have tried the obvious (I think!) except uninstall itunes. Didn't have this prob till sometime after the itunes update, but don't know if that is the cause. I'll uninstall it and see what happens.

| The one last obvious thing I did fixed it, I think. Instead of uninstalling itunes, I did a repair of the program, which was one of the options. That seemed to have fixed it. Stupid itunes! (and me, too). Thanks for all of your input, this forum always inspires me!

| OK, problem not fixed. I opened a window after a while, and it froze, so I opened taskmanager w/ctrl-alt-del, clicked on taskmanager, then closed it so I could access the previously opened window. ***?

| Try doing a system defrag and clean up old files, cookies, ect. Also do a checkdisk. |

| OK, now the problem has evolved into something else. My desktop icons don't freeze now (I can open progs), but I can't move them, no matter what I try. They'll move if I use auto arrange, but I can't put them where I want to. Also, my taskbar freezes until I open taskmanager and click on a task. Then the taskbar unfreezes. I've used diskeeper to defrag, I've used easycleaner to get rid of unnecessary files and registry entries and such, I've run scandisk, I've done a system restore to a couple of weeks prior to the problem. I don't wanna have to do a complete system restore/recovery, so can someone help?

| Re: Weirdest problem I've ever had....need help! I've had a somewhat similar experience. A few weeks ago I'd gotten a virus. Generic trojan something. When I did certain things, like press volume + on my keyboard, or when I ran certain programs it would sorta freeze my desktop. If I tried to click anything i'd just get that "beeb" Illegal action windows sound. However i could bring up the task manager, with ctrl, alt del. Also the "Start" menu would work, if I hit the start button on my keyboard. Clicking on it woulden't work. I don't know if it's a virus in your case. When I did a scan with AVG, it would find the virus and "heal" it, but a reboot later it was still there. Don't excatly recall how I got rid of it...
