| WINXP Home Will not recognize my DVD drive I've had the computer for over a year, haven't changed anything inside of it, and all of a sudden about a week ago the DVD drive disappeared. Not a phsyical disappearance, but when I go into MY COMPUTER it doesn't show it there, I went into "computer management" and this appeared Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41) I realize the computer really needs to be formatted, but until Ozzie has some free time to help out ( HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B I was going to update the drive, but low and behold the drivers are on... a CD :-\

| the first thing I would do is remove the device from device manager and reboot and let it install the OS install it again. If you still get the error I would check the IDE cable and the drive itself. If everything seems fine then your drive may have kick the bucket.

| I believe that basically, a filter driver is missing or non-operational. Give this a try...Locate the UpperFilters value under the following Key in the Registry... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | CurrentControlSet | Control | Class | {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same Key in the Registry... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | CurrentControlSet | Control | Class | {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. If you lose functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. Also, make sure to at least export the above Key...just in case there's a problem and you need to merge the previous settings. You'll also need to reboot for the above changes to take effect.
