XP Pro Upgrade 1st edition

I have the original XP Pro upgrade CD, which requires me to insert an upgrade CD (which I have), then install SP2 from a MS CD, then run windows updates...

All of this is not a real big deal, but none the less a pain and a concern I may not end up with a complete, clean install.

Question is, with Vista looming as the only choice pretty soon and with the XP PRO OEM version with SP2 available for ~$100, should I get one for my next upgrade? I am concerned with all the steps I have to go through to install XP now with my dated CD, I may not end up with the most stable, fastest version possible.

Any thoughts or comments welcome.

Thanks!

Re: XP Pro Upgrade 1st edition

No need to buy another copy (CD key). Just make a Slipstreamed XP SP3 disc and use that.

Re: XP Pro Upgrade 1st edition

I followed the link and found this: REQUIRED:
A Windows XP Home or Professional with SP2 Setup CD. This one's important: You cannot slipstream SP3 into an original XP Setup CD or an XP with SP1 Setup CD: Only SP2 will do.

Thanks for the input! Do you know of any other options?

Re: XP Pro Upgrade 1st edition

Create a SP2 disk first. And then slipstream SP3 into that.

Yes, you need to slipstrean SP2 first.

Or simply avoid SP3 altogether Theres nothing wrong with SP2

Unless you want to avoid downloading and installing >100 hotfixes through Windows Update.
