| Re: XP stoped installing with this error Sounds like the DVD has a corrupt file on it, or else the DVD drive is reading it incorrectly, with errors. A CRC (cyclic redundancy check) is a verification of data integrity that is performed during reading of data from cd's and dvd's, among other things. I presume the "D" reference refers to the cd/dvd drive in which your install disk is inserted. If you have one, you could temporarily swap in a different cd/dvd drive and try the disk in that. Hope that helps, -- Al

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error I would also download memtest86+ and test the ram for a few hours. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool |

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error Thanks for the quick help, That sounds belivable, I also had a suggestion on the screen with the error message to clean the disk and try again. So it is either the install disk or my DVD drive. There both new so who knows. I do have another combo drive already mounted but not pluged in yet. wanted to do my install with minimum hardware. I'll just unplug my burner and plug in my combo and try again. If still no luck I guess its RMA time for the disk.... When you stop in the middle of an install like this I guess I'll need to reformat the partition I just made for the OS, right? Thanks for the advice, really helped.......Gregor |

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error JoeFrat..... Thanks. I think I did make a miss step gathering the parts for this system. I had planed to run XP 64 bit so I picked up 4 gigs of OCZ reaper ( couldn't resist the price). then I realized I couldnt run Adobe CS3 on the 64 bit os. Was hoping I wouldnt have problems with 4 gigs and 32 bit XP but maybe I am huh. I did notice the timing the bios set isn't quite right and the voltage is a little low. What do you think, Change my timing and voltage and try again with the other DVD drive or order a 2 gig set Now that I think about it, I have 2 gigs of Gskill DDR2-800 right here in this old Pivillion I'm pounding this out on... | Re: XP stoped installing with this error 32-bit XP shouldn't have any trouble running with 4gB of RAM. My own system is set up like that. It just won't be able to utilize all 4gB; I think it will use around 3.25gB of it. I'd run Memtest86+ for a while before adjusting RAM timings and/or voltage, and then again afterwards. Regards, -- Al

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error [quote=S.SubZero;1411828]Really? Yea really........ I've read all the posts there, didn't find anything very incouraging. some of the apps (cs3) are stable others are not. If your using bridge you could have problems. XP64 is better (with adobe cs3) than vista64 but xp pro 32 is better than vista. I think adobe is waiting for MS to get the kinks out of vista. and I must say it looks like they are.. maybe Soon Anyway, thank you guys for the help, got XP loaded and all is working well. It must have been my DVD burner. switch over to my combo ROM and sailed right through the rest of the install. Any thoughts on testing a burner? Hate to be to hasty with an RMA request......... Thanks again............Gregor |

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error My one further thought would be to check the manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update available for the drive. CD/DVD drives commonly have firmware updates to allow them to handle a wider range of disk characteristics, or to handle disks from a broader range of manufacturers. Regards, -- Al

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error I 2nd Joe Frat's recommendation to check the ram. I've found most Windows installation errors are due to Ram issues.

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error I had an issue a while back, and it had to do with the RAM. I agree that most issues are due to this.

| Re: XP stoped installing with this error Data error ( cyclic redundancy check ) means there is a CRC error (corruption of data). Most likely your XP disc is dirty/scratched/faulty. It can also be caused by a faulty HDD or bad memory, or an instable CPU overclock.
