I loove this avatar .... but when I use it in the game .... it gets a white background .....

It goes in:

Program Files/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/yourname/counter-strike source/cstrike/materials/VGUI/logos

or

Program Files/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/yourname/half-life 2 deathmatch/hl2mp/materials/VGUI/logos

the image is a png image .... when I convert it to a jpg and then import it thru the game ... the BG is white ....

you aren't supposed to convert it to a .jpg i am pretty sure.

It should be a .vtf file like in the zip I just posted...not a .png... a .vtf is generated by the "vtex" tool included in the Source sdk from a .tga file that supports alpha channel transparency...put it in the directories I mentioned above..it will then be selectable from the game gui itself.

EDIT: the method you are citing for importing jpg files is only for images that do not have transparency...my logos do...
