Re: Age Of Conan

We heard. Just started playing it and I think its an awesome leap from the WoW and other MMOs, surly brings DX10s realistic graphics to greater heights in terms of MMORPGs. I also like how instead of quest logs you get cut-scenes this really makes the story line go in depth.

it's not that I get bored with them...it's that I'm not a big RPG multiplayer gamer plus I don't like having to pay a monthly fee to play games online

compare the entertainment value of your monthly subscription to the cost of one movie at a theater (inc gas, food and the factor of once seen, it's done)....really not too hard to justify

geez I just looked at the prices and it's higher then I thought...I thought it was going to be around 7-8 dollars a month but it's $14.99 a month...add that up for 1 year or longer and it gets ridiculous...you better make sure you really love the game in order to fork down that sort of cash for 1 game

Re: Age Of Conan

Maybe a silly question, but how is this game when it comes to single player?

I used to play WoW, but sometimes found it tough to find a team, so I hoped onto Guildwars where there are computer helpers... Not as fun, I know, but when I only have an hour or so to play, and want to run a quest, it was great....

Is this one a descent single player game as well?
Cuz it looks so kewl, and I wanna play it too!!

Well, most subscriptions are monthly unless you opt to pay in advance for a (usually) marginal discount, so any user underwhelmed by gameplay can certainly opt out, however, since these subscriptions are in addition to the OTC price of the game, it is a good idea to do a trial (often free) or try to get in beta if possible before committing hard-earned dinero to these sorts of games. I did that (beta) with this one and will not be purchasing it..found it rather same-o to be honest. As to the one game thing, try not to look at it as a open and close purchase, such as the typical single player FPS, even those with a multiplayer component, as most MMORPGs tend to continue to invest in added content over time, as well as maintaining a persistent world on company servers. I certainly feel that game companies can do well indeed under this business model, particularly when the MMORPG is successful a la WoW ....I doubt if any of the Blizzard folk have less than 2 Ferraris in their garages, lol

It can end up a lifestyle more than a game. If you find the right one, I can be worth it.

here's some info about the single player campaign...in my opinion it doesn't seem worthwhile to buy this game for the limited single player aspect...the multiplayer aspect is what the game is all about

Re: Age Of Conan

As a long-time MMO player (my current, Final Fantasy XI, I'm going on my 5th year) I can say the monthly fee at first seems kinda strange but it's justified as long as the makers add new content and keep aware of the player base. FFXI gets updates multiple times per year which add new stuff, new quests, new stuff to do. They have events also, especially around the holidays (american AND japanese holidays).

I never feel my monthly fee is going to waste. The FFXI servers are practically always up, and even though they are in Japan there is virtually no trans-oceanic lag or anything that would make the game less playable due to location. They have a very good infrastructure in place that I'm sure isn't free to maintain.

That's not to say all MMOs (or at least games with a monthly fee) care the same about their users. I remember when Sega decided to make Phantasy Star Online into a pay-to-play, which was stupid since it was just a 4-player game with a glorified lobby. I stopped playing cold the day it went pay. They had the nerve to release the next PSO game, Blue Burst as "online only" when in reality there was no reason to do so, as it was still a 4-player game with a playable solo game. They just wanted to force people online (and into the P2P model). Pfft.
