Yes, I've got to finish HL2: Episode 1 myself. I just started it last weekend and didn't get far.

There are reviews up on Gamespot 7.6/10 and Gamespy 3.5/5.

Both are pretty positive, but do mention stuttering issues when lighting and particle effects are full-blast.

I've been playing a little bit. It's pretty nice. So far story line seems okay, graphics are nice but I did get the reported stuttering a couple of times, but no big deal. I don't really care for the save game system but I can live with it.

I like the way when you point to an item in inventory it compares it to what you have equipped. I don't know how my times I've wanted something like that in an inventory system. I also like the option to buy back an item you didn't mean to sell or give back an item you didn't mean to buy. Right-clicking on quick slots to assign them is also a positive.

I've only completed the first two main quest so I haven't got far but so far so good.

On a side note, I installed the new 91.31 nvidia drivers right before playing.

Why not try the demo? Mrs. TQ and my nephew both played it through twice before the game was released. They liked the demo a lot and my nephew bought the game as soon as he could and Mrs.TQ's copy arrived at EB yesterday.

OK, I started the game last night out of curiosity and the fact that the Greek Mythology theme appealed to me.
First, the relaxed gameplay is very welcome. Coming off completing HL:2 for the second time and hitting a bit of a lapse in my love of Oblivion - both games can get a bit tense when the fighting ramps up - just sittting back and click-whacking monsters is kind of fun.
Second, the music and ambient (cavern interior) music is very well done. Better than Oblivion's, I think.
I'm running the game at an unusual resolution 16-something by 12-whatever 'cause it's widescreen. I thought it was 1600x1200 but it isn't and I don't have the game in front of me at this moment to determine exactly at what rez it's running. I am getting a bit of chop when I come close to the incredibly detailed rocks and trees and that's a little disappointing. It doesn't adversely effect game play, but it's there and annoying.
(Another case for a new game machine this fall...)
Also I'd like to be able to swing the camera around like I could in Neverwinter Nights but that's not to be.
Otherwise, fun in a Dungeon Seige II way...but with better music and voice acting. A fairly compelling story so far and one apparently written by the fellow that wrote "Braveheart".

I'm a Level 5 Warrior ("Jason") but the Mage's classes look very interesting. I might add a bit of Nature Magic (if I can multi-class) to my Warrior but we'll see...

Yea, I played for a minute or two last night. I'm also a warrior, I chose a female as my character, can't remember what name I gave her. I believe I'm level 3 or 4 and its definitely a click, click, click action-RPG, which is what I kind of miss with the newer RPG's. I knew about the no camera rotation but I like that for this game. I just need an organize inventory button. That would help out a lot.

I also get the choppy/stuttering at times. But its doesn't seem isolated to any particular area for me. It just happens every now and then. Like you said no big deal and it doesn't take away from the gameplay.

They are already working on a patch,

Quote:
While I don't have an exact date yet I can tell everyone that we have fixed the following in the upcoming patch:

Character Corruption on Saved Games Caused By Crashes
Smarter (Improved) Inventory Placement when you pick up Items
Dialog Windows Closing when Bumping NPCs
Improved Multiplayer Performance on 5 & 6 Player Games

We are looking into the crash bugs being reported. It has been difficult because of the known issues with people trying to circumvent the SECUROM software and trying to get data from those experiencing legit crashes. I just want to let everyone know that these crashes are our highest priority and even though we cant respond to everyone reporting a crash bug we are collecting all the data from you folks and are working towards a solution.

Thank you all for your patience.

Personally games where you cannot save where ever you are are a big no-no for me. What is it with game developers that they can't write a routine that saves whenever you want. Doing everything over and over again is not my idea of fun.

I agree, but you can save whenever you want with Titan Quest. Unfortunately, you have only one slot...it's pretty much a quick save feature only.
It's not too bad, really.
It's a really fun game, though. Me and Mrs. TQ have burned the entire day playing it. She gets on for a couple of hours then we switch and I play for a while. We're both up to Level 11 with our respective characters. She's gone pure Mage while I went the Warrior route.
It's quite addictive...

I was under the impression that this game still uses some sort of checkpoints.. E.g. if you save and reload again you will still have to complete some parts over and over again. Maybe I read it wrong.

I guess I will have to add this to my playlist then... comments here have been very positive.

BTW: I just completed the spellforce 2 campaign. Great game too if you like RTS combined with RPG. Unfortunately it appears you cannot save while playing a free game (haven't checked if that is the case with skirmish games).

I missed out on the Diablo phenomenon because I had limited myself to first person perspective games exclusively. In the last several years though - after playing Neverwinter Nights and the Jedi Knight games which I played entirely from the 3rd person perspective - I have broadened my...uh..."perspective" on what I'll play.
Titan Quest is really beautifully done. The music is spectacular, the graphics are hightly detailed, the sound design is extremely good and the gameplay is of the can't-quit-now-variety. Voice acting is quite good (vastly better than Dungeon Seige II's sad voice acting) and it's quite different to hear Eastern European accents as opposed to the traditional upper class English style of speaking that one generally hears in gaming. Plus the Greek mythological setting is very compelling to someone that grew up reading Greek and Roman mythologies.

Hold on...what's that? Oh..I think I hear it calling me now..."come play...come play"...it's the (pardon the pun) Siren call of Titan Quest.
Gotta go...I'm sure there's a harpy or cyclops that's begging to be whacked.

I want to be perfectly clear on the save system...while you can save anytime you want essentially it saves your character/stats/gear. Not your position. When you return to the game you are in the last city or the nearest teleport system. It really isn't a hassle if you plan your exit save. Sure it's not perfect (a true save anywhere with multiple slots would be that) but I have never gotten frustrated with the save system. I'm always close enough to my last position so it doesn't become a slog-through repeating previous battles. I like it better than DS II's save system, which is similar.

I did have to fight a boss a second time but that was so anomalous that I think it was a bug. No big deal, really, and I got to loot his corpse a second time. Speaking of loot, it's plentiful and gets a lot better once you hit level 10 or so. Chests are abundant and guarded by critters just aching to die by your hand.
I'm really enjoying my Warrior. I just added Defense as my second mastery and I'm loving the Shield Batter, which is a cool offensive Defense mastery.
It stuns enemies with a very satisfying *WHUNK* and lesser monsters it kills outright.
This is a very good game. It's better than DS II (which I enjoyed playing) and it keeps you wanting to go and put a beat-down on that group of monsters just around the next bend.
Oh, you get to visit Greece, Egypt and The Orient, so I will assume that it isn't just Greek mythology but that of other lands, as well.

Heh...I haven't even looked at HL:2 Episode 1 since I started Titan Quest...

The save game system isn't bad just as you said. And the "fountains" are pretty close to each other which makes it better. I installed it in Vista yesterday and copied my character from XP over. Played for a long time. I'm now level 8 I believe.

It seemed to have the stuttering and choppiness in Vista as in XP at times. Also every other letter would be missing when the name of the town I just entered would flash on the screen. Instead of saying SPARTA, it said S A T A or something like that. Besides that no other quirks in Vista as I could tell. I'll be copying my character back over to XP and playing there today though.

This is one clickfest of a good game. I can't believe I've died twice already in this game and had to re-spawned at the last fountain. I usually am pretty good at avoiding death even if I have to run. But there was a group of skeletons and such on the way to Sparta that caught me off guard as they rose from the ground. It was too many and I noticed too late. Then after come I back and clear out everything and head on to Sparta I run into one of the BIG boars (can't remember the name) and also a group of small ones. Once again caught me off guard, as I was just patting myself on the back for getting revenge on the skeletons. Darn!!

I've put a couple of points into the war horn, has proven to be quite the stunner. Nice skills to chose from. I am enjoying the game and haven't played HL2:Episode 1 since I got it either.
