Only played DS 2 for a short while before oblvivion or some other game hit the no. 1 spot.

I'm really getting frustrated by TQ.... I hardly find any items that are of any use to me (epic items or higher). I am a druid with storm mastery but usually only find bows/shields/heavy armor which are completely useless to me. So while I'm looking for a nice druid's cuirras, I find a 390STR requiring cuirrass...

Nice to have 5 mil. in the bank but rather frustrating to get killed to much on higher levels because you can't build a decent character. Not to forget that you loosse an extreme amount of exp. if you get killed twice in a rather short time.

Mrs. TQ feels your pain and, as a Spirit/Storm Sorceress has the same complaint. Not enough cool armor to be found for her class, in fact, too little really good treasure in any case, and finding fun loot is one of the reasons we play RPG's, isn't it?
It might be good if we gang up and go over to post this complaint on their forums. They might fix that in the inevitable add-on.

I believe they balanced the game armor/equipment for regular play, and not epic or legendary. People on the semi-official forums are complaining that there is not enough armor for melee characters on higher levels (even more so than the magic/archer characters). Because -- the boss (and some mobs) will kill you right away if you get hit. Magic users/archers can sometimes move around to avoid getting hit, but melee characters have no choice. Therefore, it is nearly impossible to beat certain areas with a melee character.

This game has hard crashed my computer 3 times in about 12 hours. The only other game where I have had a crash recently was oblivion. The third time it wiped all my quests out! I did not realize it, restarted and saved one time before exiting (which saves the game again). Therefore my backup also got wiped out. I had to start the main quest over again by talking to the characters in the same order. And lost my sidequests as well. It was annoying, but actually not so bad because I got an extra pack and an extra skill point.

Well, out of misery I yesterday decided to use the "apply relics to all" mod.

This mod allows you to apply relics to epic and legandary items and not just normal items. This made it a bit more interesting.

I did find a very nice staff though... I always thought a 100 pts damage lightning staff would clearly beat a 70 pts damage cold staff (100-70, even taking into account any modifiers). Not so... it's the modifiiers that count most. My 70 pts cold staff kicks the living daylights out of my lightning staff.. Percentage modifiers can really, really increase a weapons's capacity.

BTW: I'm now level 42 (almost) on act 3 Epic... (and yes, just lvl 42 because I get killed a lot... )

Already played through Diablo 1 and 2 and Dungeon Siege so I'm kinda played out on these kinda games. They can be fun but boy, do they drag. I just don't enjoy going out again and again to find weapons and raise stats. Dungeon Siege was the worst with the lack of a teleport between towns...

Well, as long as new games add something e.g. visual eyecandy, gameplay elements, new gear, etc... etc.. these games will proably keep me interested. But you are right, certain aspects are a drag...

Fortunately most newer games have teleport options as oposed to the games you mentioned.

[start venting]

I'm about to abandon this game. The FPS issues are too frustrating... I die a lot.. A heck of a lot... about 136 times up till now (you know how much EXP that has cost me??)... Nope... not because I'm a novice. But because the FPS bog down to a splattering 10 FPS whenever in combat with the really nasty guys... I get killed so fast my character doesn't even turn before I'm dead. And no, I use the right tactics..

For the "fun" of it I scaled down to 1280x1024 with almost everything set to low... Not so "funny" on a 24" with my specs...

No changes... still bogus FPS... Bah... Can't believe I actually made it up to lvl 42 now... Should have been in the 50thies if it wasn't for the game glitches..

I sure hope NWN2 will be better.

[/end venting]

wooshh... that feals better... somewhat.

That's too bad about your experience. I just got back from vacation. I should be able to install and get back to playing tonight.

I just read that NWN2 has been pushed back a month from Sept to Oct. I'm looking forward to that also.

Yeah... go rubbing salt in my wounds!! Ah well... if that means a less buggy experience than TQ I'd say push it back 2 months.

Weird. I'm running it at 1680x1050 widescreen on my HP and while it does slow down in heavily forested areas it's not unplayable. Otherwise it's running fine. I wonder if that's because 1680x1050 is my monitor's native rez?
Just finished the game this morning, in fact. Olympus is stunningly beautiful, as are the Obsidian Caverns.

Works or me, too. I'm glad the developers have the luxury of being able to do that instead of being required to adhere to a tight schedule the way Lucasarts did to them with KOTOR II.
I can understand scheduling but KOTOR II suffered because of all the incomplete content.

Even going back to 1280x1024 gave me extreme slowdowns... unplayable when you are head to head with 2 black, 6 brown dragons or those nice tigerman champions on epic level. I'll tell you, things sure become a LOT harder on Epic.

I guess it all boils down to whether or not you do find THAT perfect gear. I haven't found mine yet and most epic items (green) that I find are unwearable for me or unequipable. I have about 16mln in the bank but that doesn't mean anything.

I've been playing for an hour now while running TQ through dxtweaker to force d3d triple buffering and that smooths out the game a bit.

Say, are you using AA? I'm not which may make the difference in performance.

Well, I've tried disabling AA ingame and forcing it through the driver (a mere 4x though)... no change.. I haven't tried disabling it alltogether because obviously I didn't build this rig to run graphics in a 5 year old way. But like I said, enabling true triple buffering by using DXTweaker did improve the game a lot.

I must be an addict cause last night I finished it on Epic too... A mere 7 levels up from Normal (that is how often I got killed).

I think it is crazy that when you get killed over and over again by 1 boss you loose all the experience you gathered by slashing a zillion tigermen, dragons and such.

It takes you hours and hours to accumulate the experience but 3 boss runs to loose it all...

I didn't take notice that this was happening. Is this true for the "normal" run through as well? I did note that I was close to upping my warrior to level 33 as I closed in on the end of the game but it seemed that I couldn't quite get that green bar to move the last quarter inch to get to that point. I just figured the level was capped at 32 for the normal difficulty run-through.
