Anybody playing Perry Rhodan?

Hi there!

Has anybody heard of the game "Perry Rhodan" (you play the main character of the german sci-fi series "Perry Rhodan") and/or is playing or planning to play it?

Bought it yesterday and played for some hours. Had me instantly tied to it, remembered me of the old times when i was reading the first 30 books of so (about 600 pages each) about 20 years ago.

Great game imho.

Re: Anybody playing Perry Rhodan?

Hi Dru,
Thanks for the link.
I've never heard of the series, but it looks pretty cool. Do you know if there is a demo somewhere I can download?

Is it me, or does one of the characters have a pancake for a head? Does look cool though.

Re: Anybody playing Perry Rhodan?

I have been searching for a good adventure game for some time. Let us know how it plays (realistic or not, good puzzles or ones that have nothing to do with the plot, linear plot or has a lot of freedom regarding overcoming obstacles, etc.).

Re: Anybody playing Perry Rhodan?

Well i think it has a very linear story you have to follow. I already encountered a situation where it was impossible to continue because i used one item to early.
Graphics are great (that i'm using a new HD3850 512MB AGP card for some time adds to the graphical impression), puzzles are ok so far.

Read somewhere that it should be available in english too. The german versions lip movements should be syncron to the dialoges.

Had a site somewhere with all the important links, have to go look for it.

Greetings

Dru

P.S.: Perry Rhodan uses open-source, the choice of the resident.
The whole series itself is kinda like open source.

Re: Anybody playing Perry Rhodan?

I agree it should be available in English--otherwise, why have an English website? Open source sounds good. I don't mind paying for it, but I would like something that runs on a superior operating system like Linux.

With "perry rhodan uses open source" i meant the main character inside the game. The Perry Rhodan universe may be comparable to the Star Trek universe when it comes to professions and jobs that serve the community.
In the first "level" of the game you are inside the residence, an administrative building for the resident made out of positronics (electronics, mechanics and organic intelligence) running a program which source code you have to download and give give to a bionician so he can repair a maintenance terminal of the building for you.

The series itself, periodical journals, has been and is written by many, many authors. (One austrian writer once wrote an episode where the inhabitants of a planet only talked by quoting Nietzsche). Several journals are then compiled into a books periodically. (there are about 40 or 50 books i think now, each one has several hundred pages).
There are huge guidebooks, describing the rules for the perry rhodan universe (what has happened, what has been invented, what to avoid) which is kinda like the source code for a perry rhodan episode.

Greetings

Dru

P.S.: Only foudn alink to the german demo so far. Download via Filefront.
