"If there's a message that Epic wanted to convey, it's that the PC game isn't merely a port of the 360 game. Gears of War has basically been retuned to feel like a PC game, and the visuals remain on the cutting edge, so much so that you'll probably want to show off the graphics to your friends. The PC game will have all of the content that appeared in the Xbox 360 game, along with all of the extra downloadable content that was released over the past year. It will also ship with five new single-player chapters, three new multiplayer arenas, a new multiplayer game mode, and the latest version of the Unreal editor

And thanks to the many engine optimizations that have been done over the past year, the PC game is essentially running on a "new" engine, which means that much of the new content will never appear for the Xbox 360 game, we're told"

Re: Gears of War

Sounds like a great game, cept I prefer 1st person to 3rd person.
I assume the PC version is still 3rd person?

Re: Gears of War

Gears of Wars is good. Played it on my friends Xbox 360, and was very impressed with it last year (for a console game). I think I will get this game due to the fact that the multiplayer is not too downgraded by the subscription and I did not complete it. Silver is all I want for co-op play and nothing more.

The game is in third person still. However, the third person view works very well. It is similar to Star Wars/Jedi based games in saber combat, in that you get to see your area to work with and combat with. You need to remember that the game is based on cover and in first person it is not workable.

should be an interesting change of pace...I always prefer the 1st person POV but if its similar to Knights of the Old Republic then it shouldn't be too hard to get used to

EDIT: is this game going to use the checkpoint system like Far Cry and not have a 'Save' feature?

Just the mention of that game and my blood starts to boil. I'm still waiting for a patch that will allow saves anywhere. I'm sorry, but I hate to have to play a game for an hour before I can save. They might as well add a Resident Evil typewriter ribbon save system.

Re: Gears of War

The local Gamestop guy told me that you can set the view so that it is almost a hybrid between 1st and 3rd person.....

He told me that even a hard core 1st person guy like me will "love" it....

Hope he's right....

Where am I going to find the time to play all these wonderful games coming out...
I'm just now finishing HL2 Ep2 and BioShock
And now there is: TimeShift
HellGate London
Call of Duty 4
Gears of War
FEAR Persius Mandate
Crysis
Soldier of Fortune Payback

I'm gonna be a busy boy.....

Re: Gears of War

The view is a bit more over the shoulder, but with some more peripheral area to see than other over the shoulder. The segments for the saves are not too bad. You will have to play parts over, yes. But when I played the game it did not seem too tiresome when playing and trying to achieve the next segmental save. But this type of save system is trifling.

Re: Gears of War

All I can say right now is....

drop what you are doing and go get Call of Duty 4!! NOW!

I played some last night...

Completely blew me away!

The graphics....
The sound quality...
The wild action of combat...
The weapons....
The pace...
The noise.....

The AC-130 gunship segment is just plain one of the funnest modules I've ever, ever played.

I blew 3 hours last night on the game and was exhausted.....

IMHO-----it's THAT good!
