Morrowind drove my upgrade cycle for quite a while before I was happy.
The recommended spec for the PC is :
Chip - 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
RAM - 1 GB System RAM
Viddeo - ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Which I meet (6800GT). I am happy to play F.E.A.R with this rig (with texture res down 1 notch to avoid the hitching issue), but I suspect Oblivion is going to push me the same way Morrowind did.

I remember when Morrowind was first released my game machine was 1Ghz PIII with a ti500 for video.
It didn't take me very long to upgrade.

Wow, those are some pretty steep recommended req's. Mainly the 3Ghz CPU. What are the minimum req?

Windows XP
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card

But really want to try to meet the recommended specs, if possible. It'll be worth it.

Hehehe... fortunately I'm covered as far as hardware goes... at least for another year 1/2 or 2 years.. budgetwise that is. I'm sure in a couple of months a game will come out that trashes it but a man has to know his limitations...

Any of you guys think it would be worth spending an extra 10 euros for the collectors editon???.... I think it includes a bonus DVD, 122 page manual, some replica coins etc...?

For me, no. As long as the "standard" version is on DVD -and it is - that, along with what will surely be another fabulous Bethesda-produced game guide, will be all I need.
One of the great joys of playing Morrowind was having Bethesda's own, in-house produced, richly detailed and terribly witty game guide at my disposal.
I look forward to having one equally witty to use while playing Oblivion.

Well I changed my order to the CE anyway. Only 6 or 7 euros extra so no big deal.

I was thinking about the CE too. It just depends on whats included. The 112 page pocket guide may be worth it. I don't do too many CE because they usually just include a extra CD/DVD with stuff available on the web. The best CE I bought was Age of Empire 3, now that was a CE. So much stuff it was ridiculous.

Well, ever since my poor experience with Half Life 2 CE I dont feel a need to get another CE version. I only care about the media, it has to be DVD

For weeks I have gone back and forth over what my character will be the first go 'round.
Dark Elf, for his balanced combat and magic abilities and born under the sign of he Mage for increased Magicka? Or Wood Elf with his agility, speed, bow skills and born under the sign of The Thief for a bonus to all that natural ability? Or just go heavy combat and sign up as a Nord born under The Warrior and go kick some bootee'?

I just can't decide...I'd better, though, because my friendly, neighborhood Electronic Boutique will have it on Monday.
