I don't know how you can be so certain how the game is played, seeing as how you have decided not to play it.
I'd prefer to reserve judgement on the subtleties of Bethesda's implementation before I pass judgement. Too bad you're taking a pass as the game so far is fantastic fun.

yes, totally understand that and I guess thats what scared me a bit too, but I want to play some more and level up before passing judgment. Hopefully the good people at Bethesda already thought of this... the point to be made at the moment is at least we wont run out of challenges which did happen in Morrowind.

I'll have to check on that. You may be right.

TQ please don't get me wrong... I actually think very highly of this game. I have really looked forward to it for quite a long time and think that it is very close to being a GREAT RPG. I have played around with it for a few hours and have read extensively on the Oblivion boards (and if the rabid fans who usually see no wrong with Bethesda think there is a problem...well). Everything I've seen and read has led me to stop until this is fixed. I don't want to "see" too much of this game until what I see as a glaring design mistake is fixed.

I am extremely happy that it has the Construction Set because the mod community did a fantastic job of fixing a lot of Morrowinds flaws. In fact I don't want to use the CS myself so that I don't spoil anything I shouldn't see yet. I think Oblivion has far fewer problems than Morrowind and am pleased with many other aspects of the game.

Just thought I'd mention - I'd uninstalled oblivion, clocked my machine back to stock specifications, reinstalled it and still generated the same crashes. The game would run perfectly well for a period, then without warning, it would crash back to the desktop. Where the particular crash occurred, it could be readily regenerated.

For example there are 2 specific things I can do to "ensure" it crashes:
1. load one specific save game (as soon as it loads it crashes)
2. load one other save game, and use the soothing touch spell on an enemy - it will crash within 2 or 3 seconds. If I do not use this spell, it continues playing perfectly well.

That really sounds like a corrupted save file. Were those saves from your first installation? In any case I think it would be a good idea to go back to earlier saves until it stops crashing or start fresh and play from there and see how u go.

I also experienced 1 corrupted save point so far.

Has anyone tried Alchemy, spell making or persuasion? I like the persuasion, the NPC models faces are very expressive! Only I dont seem to be too good at it yet.

I really dislike the lock picking game, its frustrating. Actually didnt Thief have this and wasnt it just as frustrating then?

i have a 3 button mouse and in 98% of games, especially, fps's i use button 2 (middle) for walk farward, button 3 (right) for walk backwards and the 1st buton (left) for fire weapon.

that's ok, because i will wait for a couple of things. like i said, a few patches, not least because no one got too far and how do you know there won't be some major bugs towards the end ? and you won't be able to use your saves to continue once patched ??? imagine that. also, probably just as important, i'll wait to play it on a direct x 10 video card with 512mb ram with aa et al. i have a few other games to play yet.

let me know if there's a fix for the mouse issue. (ini editing ?) :wave2:

and when i do play it, i will be an assassin!! any assassins here ??

I've mapped forward to the right mouse button ok. If you want, let me know which specific mappings dont work for you and I'll try it.

I'm a Nord Crusader.
You can even make your own custom class if you like, but I just didnt have that much patience at the start.

Its finally working! (so far)
I updated DirectX from 9.0C with the December 05 update and also installed the latest dotNET framework. The problems appear to be gone.

actually NONE worked. i use a logitech trackman with 3 buttons. when i go to select the new key and i press the buttons (any of the 3) nothing happens. i can select new keyboard keys just fine. i just assumed it's one of _those_ games that don't allow certain key mappings. since i now removed it (as per my other post) it matters not, for next year or so after the numerous patches AND the expansion packs i will look into it then.

Comes with some nice features too but not too sure I'm too happy about that. Starting to look REAL ugly too!!
