Are you sure that you have arrowed over on the control configuration page from keyboard settings to mouse? I didn't see it at first either, but it's listed at the top of the menu.

Much like zapionics, I have mapped numerous buttons on my Logitech mouse to movement and actions. Give it a go.

By the way, I'm happily sucked back in to the world of Cyrodil!

Yeah, don't know what happened exactly, should have paid attention more closel.

Starting to be NOT funny...Now I'm kind of considered evil, people won't talk to me and all guards attack me everywhere. Even guards on a horse in the middle of nowhere. Basically there doesn't seem to be any other option than reload a saved game from days ago and do it all over again.

Any suggestions?

I have 4x fame and 1x infame....

Thumbs up

I put my first 6 hours of gameplay into it yesterday. I am playing a Dark Elf, Lord, Knight...

I must admit, I was TOTALLY lost my first few hours never playing a game like this before, but I am starting to get the hang of it. I like it. I just leveled up to 2, I didnt realize that you had to sleep to level up LOL.

Someone said this game had between 50-100 hours of game play? Hopefully that's the case! I love it so far.

If you are picking up items (from a crate or something) just click the icon with the sack I think and click the item you want to drop.

If you are click on an item and keep the left mouse button pressed for 2 seconds (while not looking at a body or crate or anything) you will drop that item. You have to toss it away sometimes.

BTW: I DID reload an old savegame and did it all over again from that point!! So much better when you can just talk to people and not be attacked by guards all the time!

This game has really picked up since then... A ton of quests to be solved in the towns and such!!

I mapped the grab key to a mouse button for ease of use. You just line your reticle up on an object and then hold down the grab button. Its not like HL2, if somethings too heavy u cant move it and smaller things wobble around in your hold and eventually can drop. U can drag bodies along the ground and stuff.

U can also throw stuff by swinging and letting go of the mouse at the right moment. I also tried to pat my horse but sadly it doesnt seem to feel it.

I am extremely happy that it has the Construction Set because the mod community did a fantastic job of fixing a lot of Morrowinds flaws. In fact I don't want to use the CS myself so that I don't spoil anything I shouldn't see yet. I think Oblivion has far fewer problems than Morrowind and am pleased with many other aspects of the game.
The last people who's opinion I'd pay attention to would be those describe as "rabid fans".
Still, to each his own.
However, I played Morrowind and its expansion packs four times through and thus far in just the relative few short hours I've been able to devote to Oblivion I have found it to be a vast improvement over Morrowind in all areas of design and gameplay.
I can't wait to get back home from Houston and hurl myself back into Oblivion's compelling game world.

The lockpick implementation of Thief III (I assume you mean Thief III) was perfection itself and was much superior to that of Oblivion.
Have you read in the documentation on how Oblivion's lockpicking works? I was confused about it as well until I read up on it. Now it works just fine. I still break a lot of picks but then my skill level is low.

I was going to point that out but Bampson beat me to it. Sadly, even the finest games will henceforth suffer from some form of consolitus and Oblivion is no exception. We just have to live with it.

For example there are 2 specific things I can do to "ensure" it crashes:
1. load one specific save game (as soon as it loads it crashes)
2. load one other save game, and use the soothing touch spell on an enemy - it will crash within 2 or 3 seconds. If I do not use this spell, it continues playing perfectly well.
If these save games are from your previous o/c'd install it is likely that they are corrupted.
Have you tried starting an all new game since you re-installed Oblivion?

Thats right Thief III and I agree it was done much better in Thief than here.
Yep, read the manual. I just think the whole thing is a bit juvenile. I tend to just hit the "auto" button. I've found that the skill still levels up doing it that way.

OTOH, I really like the persuasion mini-game, have u tried that?

He got it going by updating his Dx9 installation and his .Net. Dunno why it fixed it but he says it did. I still think those saves are probably corrupted tho.
