Yep, read the manual. I just think the whole thing is a bit juvenile. I tend to just hit the "auto" button. I've found that the skill still levels up doing it that way.

Ironically an ex-designer from the Thief series was recruited by Bethesda to work on Oblivion.

Lockpicking does feature a minigame of sorts, designed by Emil Pagliarulo, an ex-Thief designer. You are presented with a cross-section of the lock you are trying to pick. The game involves moving your pick back and forth across the tumblers and trying to hit them at the proper times. The difficulty is based on your Security skill and the lock's level. It's something we've played and revised a lot to make sure its both fun and appropriate.

Completely agree... I have only played morrowind for 15 minutes but I am loving Oblivion, especially since I replayed the part from an older save game and am still a dark elf instead of a Dark elf who is vampirized (you have to see your health bar in full daylight, drained in 2 seconds!!! :eek: )

So many fun quests and so many great things to explore!!! Also starting to like leveling up and joining guilds is very nice... !! Especially the mages guild.

Some of you may have done this already but i hadn't. I had to kill some people to save some ogre for an ogre god. When i did my actions where observed by someone. then later that night while i slept in my Manor in Anvil, i was visited by the dark brotherhood or something like that. Assasins guild, or so it seems. So i joined, and i haven't had any negative issues yet, like guards attacking me. So i'm hopeing its some sort of secret society that doesnt' penalize you for doing assasinations. The leader i met was a Vampire too.. .that was some cools ****. (:

If you join the DB you will be operating outside the law, with all the possible permutations of being a criminal.

Yep, they actually brought him over to work on the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. Seems like he stuck around...

Not yet. I just spent some experience points on persuasion so it might be time for me to do so!

How do you spend experience on persuasion?? Also I seem to have a lot of trouble getting gold. I know you can buy lots of great stuff in the mages guilds and from other people but either I'm carrying too much and can't pickup and sell valuable items or I'm doing something wrong (which is more likely).

BTW: I'm a dark elf, level 7 mage.

You just go into one of the mages guilds and talk to the leader there. If you fullfil a quest for them you will get a reccomendation. If you get them from all mages guild's you can get into the arcane university (the restricted areas that is).

Subzero, find the burden spell in one of the mages guild that really helps us mages with weight issues. And up your mercantile and be sure to always haggle to get better sale prices.

TQ, thats what i was thinking too, but i did one job for them and no one seems to know that i killed anyone. No negative effects as of yet for me from the "law man" How will i see it if it is indeed like that? Maybe they changed it in this oblivion, maybe you can be an assasin and be a prince at the same time (:

Yeah, i've done quite a few missions for the mages guild now, i'm a Warlock in the mages guild. I stopped doing them though to pick up some of the main quests again.

I guess your "infame" score tells you about that. Either that or your bounty...

There is a woman in one of the towns, that can train you on persuasion. She is the wife of a man inside the house.

As far as gold is concerned, I made about 5K on the arena. It was pretty easy IMO...

I am grand champion, but I went back to fight animals. I just fought three at once and made 570 gp. It was tough, but my FPS shooter skills are accultely honed to this game's fighting system.. LOL
