Hope it turns out better than Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I had such high hopes for that game.

Oh, as did I. I even played it through twice just to determine the geniune level of my disappointment.
However, see the trailer and I think you'll understand that this game will take full advantage of Source in a way Vampire didn't.
Still, the voice acting in Vampire was first rate and the missions were very entertaining.
Overall, though, the game was a failure.

It did. The game was a mess. It's really a shame as the subject matter was so cool.
At the urging of a co-worker I recently watched "Queen of The Damned" (highly recommended if one likes good Vampire films) and was surprised to see how much influence it had over Vampire.

No doubt, but no I haven't. I've always loved really good vampire films (Coppola's Dracula, Interview, Queen of the Damned and Underworld) but I've never picked up a Rice book. Odd thing, too, since I'm a voracious reader.

About the only bit of trepidation I have over this upcoming game is that it's done by the same group that did Arx Fatalis. While Arx was actually pretty compelling it was also horribly buggy...so much so that I had to stop playing it.
I forget how many patches they put out to fix the game but it was quite a few.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I am very close to finishing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines for the second time myself and thought it was actually one of the better games I have played. Anyone who is using the latest patches (especially the "True Patch"), will find the remaining bugs to be minimal. There are design defects such as bouncing off of the sides of doorways, but I do not consider design issues to be a show stoppers. Let me add that with the exception of Morrowind, I think the storyline in Bloodlines was about as good as it gets, although the final battle(s) starting with the werewolf confrontation were a little "been there, done that."

I believe the final release of Arx Fatalis was v 1.17. I don't know if that was 17 bug fixes or some smaller ones and a larger one (moving it to 1.1), but you are right, they had quite a bit of fixing to do.

My God, this is an ancient thread. I've actually played Vampire at least twice again since I wrote this. Guess it wasn't that bad after all.
Dark Messiah, on the other hand, did disappoint.
I'd still love to see a Source engine RPG...only this time make it a good one.
