I've added my Prey CD key to Steam, but I haven't installed that version. I prefer running just the retail version on it's own to avoid the loading time to start Steam, log on, etc. as I don't leave Steam running in the background all the time.

Same here.

If you install the new patch, does it force Steam launching (the way HalfLife did)?

It shouldn't. I'm only running 1.2 and it hasn't made such a change, and this version supposedly only allows compatibility with Mac users for multiplayer, and nothing else. 1.2 and 1.3 are compatible for multiplayer too, I think. I'll have to check that up.

Zapionics<alt>, are you trying to tell me I just wasted $19.07?
Definately did not waste $20. Where as most of the puzzles are pretty easy there are a couple that are somewhat challenging IMO. The organic weapons are neat and the upsidedown play is new. The automatic skill setting I like too. If you die a bunch of times on the same spot it gets easier. Some may not like that, but I do. Also there is no having to go back over a bunch of stuff you already did if you die. You will see how that works might be a spoiler if I told you if you don't already know. I am sure there are others that feel like Zap, but I think the grand majority enjoyed the game. Especially those like me that play FPS games to relax and enjoy the destruction and graphics and not be overly frustrated with challenge and Myst type puzzles.

Painkiller was cool for a while. After a bit though I start to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of enemies. They just keep coming and coming to where you eventually have body counts in the hundreds per round (kinda like Serious Sam). I love the asylum scene though with the nurses chasing you with the syringes. The ragdoll physics in all the right places is great.

I now have the missing Limited Collectors Edition Pewter Figurine.

The Limited Collectors Edition of Prey included in the metal box Pewter Figurine #2 The Hunter and Pewter Figurine #3 Tommy in a molded removeable velvet tray. Limited Collectors Edition Pewter Figurine #1 Mutate now keeps the others company in its OEM printed cardboard plastic bubble container.
