ASUS P5AD2 E Premium CPU upgrade

I have a P5AD2-e Premium motherboard with a P4, 550, 3.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache CPU. Also 2GB memory upgraded to 4GB. I did not see much speed improvement with the added memory.
My question is, will I see a noticeable improvement in speed with a faster CPU? The one I have is in the middle of the list of approved CPU's. I know I can't use duel core etc.

Oh yeah the ol 925 chipset. Are you running WinXp 32 bit version?I wouldn't get a new CPU for that. You would not notice much differance.Did you try setitng the multiplier to x14 on the cpu and the change the frontside bus (overclock) on the board from 200Mhz to 266Mhz?That would get your cpu to 3.73 Gigahahertz. You can also just overclock from 200fsb upwards to see what you get.Just do it a little at a time.About the biggest differance you might see is if you game at all, is a new video card instead. The ram upgrade to 4 gigs is a good thing.Even if you don't notice a lot of speed.I had that board some time back and I sure liked it.It just depends on what you do with it.That's just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, I am running XP pro 32 bit. I thought I knew the answer but I had to ask. Thanks for the tips.
Looks like a new motherboard would be the best way to go.
This one is only 3 years old so I think I will wait a while.

Yes you do have a nice board. It about 3.5 years on the market.I want to say though Win xp32 may not see all the 4gigs of ram.But it will still help. You might not see much of a speed difference. But it will help in games and studdering problems in some aps.Plus the ram won't have to cache out to the hard drive as much.you can never have to much ram.Maybe wait till later this fall to see what is coming.Plus any new stuff coming to the market will lower the price on the existing stuff.
