| I haven't seen any threads with this new motherboard, so I thought I'd start one. Here we can post our setups etc... Mine is on order from newegg.com right now. I ordered two 74GB Raptor's which I plan on setting up in RAID1. A 930 Presler CPU to hold me off till Conroe is affordable. 2x1GB of Corsair XMS2 800Mhz Cas5 ram. I'm putting in my four existing 160GB drives that are setup in 320GB RAID0+1 mode via my existing PCI Promise Raid card. Also ordered a Powercolor PCIx1 Express FM/TV Tuner, and a PCI Fusion Lite HDTV Tuner card. For sound my SB Audigy 2ZS into a PCI slot. For Video got a PCIx16 Express BFG VIVO 7800GT. (Has the new video in I wanna play with) A Silverstone 600Watt Modular PS. (Thought having less cables that I'm not using would be nice. Might have to use them all with all the drives I have though...) Installing MCE2005 on it. A shoving all this in my Black Brush Aluminum Lian Li Case. Funny thing is I'm coming from my Asus CUSL2 Black Pearl which is 1Ghz PIII. When they use to still use roman numerals to name the chips. lol So I think I should notice a speed increase. Can't wait to swap my parts out and get it built. I'll let you people know how it runs. |

| The manual lists compatible modules. I dono if my Corsair model was the one, but it did list two Corsair Modules. I can always change the CPU and ram when better ones come out, like I expect when Conroe is released. |

| On the page with the DDR2 800mhz memory they list one OCZ. A 512mb module, but it doesn't have a asterik by A B or C so I'm not sure if it's the best option for this board. Here's the manual, you can download from the Asus website. Page 16 lists the DDR2 800mhz memory modules. ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...p5w_dh_dlx.pdf I went with Corsair that was $200 - $40 mail in rebate at www.newegg.com Not bad for 2Gb of ram for 160 buks. I was paying $100+ for 256MB modules of Mushkin ram for my CUSL2 Black Pearl when I was overclocking that. So this is pretty cheap if you ask me. | I have one of the boards on the way, and I'm wondering if the layout will present any problems for an aftermarket CPU cooler. Am thinking a Zalman or equivalent will be ordered to replace the noisy Intel cooler. Can anyone comment if this will work ok? I'll be running a Conroe. |

| Just got the board all setup and running smoothly. Run's slightly hot, but that might be because I got 6 HD's in my case. CPU is around 56C idle. Is that normal for a 3Ghz Dual Core Presler? Maybe I got a hot stepping one...SL94R ? I scored a 3821 in 3DMark 2006. More test's to come. The radiator fins, may interfere with a larger heatsink/fan since it comes pretty close and high off the board towards the CPU cooler. The EZ Raid backup was brainless and now I have my two Raptors Mirrored for safety without using a floppy to install drivers during windows setup. The HighDef and Analog Tv Tuners run very responsively along with Media Center recordings etc... More to test and report later. |

| Solved my problem with the hot CPU. ![]() Bios default was set to control the CPU speed using some wierd method. I set it to AI enabled, and right away the CPU fan sped up (I could hear it and it went from 2600rpm to 4600rpm). I installed a fan in the side of my case that blows air in directly over the CPU and chipset bypassing my harddrives. Four 7200rpm, and two 10,000rpm Raptors do generate a bit of heat. The harddrives still get cooled by the fans, but more air is pushed into and out the rear exhaust fan, power supply fan, and the chimney fan. After doing this, the CPU fan slowed down, since the CPU temp dropped and now it's much quieter. The CPU now idles around 42C in my 77F room. To to relax now for a bit and see what other progams I need to install. ![]() |

| Finding ram for Intel based boards is not that hard. Just about all modules out there work very nicely. Because Intel does not integrate the memory controller the MCH is much easier on finding ram.

| Wasn't that board a SiS chipset, if so then yes SiS is very picky on ram and how it runs it. So has anyone found Core 2 yet for their board?

| Well a update on how my Setup is running and what OS's are working on it. Installed Windows MCE2005 with no problem on the EZ Backup raid controller in RAID1 mode with no floppy drivers. Tried to install Ubuntu 6.06 on a few ext3 partitions I made on the EZ Backup drive which appeared as /dev/SDA and it installed fine. I put Grub the bootloader on /dev/SDA3 and when it was done installing, Grub loaded but could not boot Ubuntu and start. I then put a spare 30GB IDE drive on the Primary IDE with the DVD Burner as slave and reinstalled Ubuntu 6.06 on the 30GB drive that appeared as HDA. Tried to boot and install Windows Vista Beta 2 32bit, but once the loading bar came up it froze, so it couldn't even get into the install. The vista install worked fine on my old trusty CUSL2 Black Pearl though and runs on that now. I have 7 HD's in my Lian Li Case and it was getting hot. So I bought 10 Masscool fans from Newegg.com and replaced 5 of the fans in the case. I also plugged them into the motherboard to monitor and control RPM's since they are 3 pin. The really cool thing is how you can turn on and off the PC with the remote. Even when it's totally shutdown. Not just hibernating or standy. Some USB devices like a mouse, if plugged into the extra 2 usb ports that are connected to the motherboard USB header, cause the system to not able to hibernate. It just hibernates, then wakes up after 2 secsonds. Got the CPU up to 3.6Ghz easily, but I need better cooling to make it run at temps that I like. Might go with a better cooling CPU fan, since it will also fit on the conroe I plan to get soon. |
