ASUS Rampage Formula

Well its that time again to build another computer, was here about five years ago for my ASUS P4PE, worked great and thanks for all of the help.

This is what I am planning to put together: ASUS Rampage Formula, Intel Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4, 2-GSkill DDR2 2gb 1066, ASUS Artic Square 92mm Vapo, ATI Diamond Viper HD3870, 2- Maxtor 500gb 7200 rpm SATA, Coolmaster Cosmos 1000 case.

Will be using an existing ATI TV Wonder 650 for TV.

I don’t do any gaming but do a lot of multi tasking, planning on running XP Pro. Not quite sure about the ram I picked, ASUS manual is not real clear on that.

Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the reply, I will keep an eye on your post.

Anyone have any suggestions on what ram to run with this mb. I am thinking about running 8gb and wanted suggestions about what to use.

Thanks

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

The ram should be ok.You'll need to make sure it's compatable. But if you plan on using WinXP.You'll need WinXP 64 bit in order to address more than 4 gigs of ram.Plus it could be difficult to populate all four ram slots. Some boards don't like to run well. They seem to run better if only two slots are used. But I do see some People with 8 gigs of ram and all four slots used and have no problems.I chose to run 4 gigs in two slots and don't have any problems.

If you choose to use Vista in the future. You'll want to have at least 4 gigs for multitasking, gaming,DVD ripping etc.

GSkill ram is good stuff. So did you order two gigs and plan on Eight Gigs later on ?

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

Rick

Thanks that clears a lot up! I will start with 4 gigs in two slots.

Haven't ordered anything yet, wanted to get the ram issue cleared up first and order everything at once.

Looks like time to put a big order in at newegg.

Thanks Again

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

Up and running, still loading software. I noticed that the Northbridge and Southbridge are running at 47c, the CPU is at 27c. No overclocking just yet. Is 47c on the hot side or no?

Thanks

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

Well it's nice to see your up and running. No 47c isn't to high for the NB & SB.But that also depends on the voltage your running and room temps.I have a 92mm fan blowing over my NB.But I need to because of the water cooling. At the lowest voltage setting it's abowt 43c.

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

Well congrats on the new build. What does the LCD say just before it goes to clock? Also can you get into the BIOS at all? Maybe it's just a setting or voltage in there that needs to be set manually.Like for the ram or CPU.

I wish I had more to give here.I'm leaving for a week on vacation. But someone here may be able to help out.

Re: ASUS Rampage Formula

It goes thru the post check list then to clock, I've found this VGA has issues since my last post... it seems this is a common problem for the 9800 GTX...
I sent off an email to Evga support... I can't find a solution in forums. Thanks for the help though,

JG
