| CPU LED on 975XBX2 I'm trying to find out what the cpu led on the Intel 975XBX2 means. I'm assuming that it means the cpu is dead. I've tried powering up without the left side panel off, and it my system still doesn't power up. I don't get this at all.

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 The CPU LED located on the board edge next to CH. A DIMM 0 indicates an elevated temperature inside the processor. I would check your CPU HSF, it may be unseated. |

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 Sandog, I checked and reseated my cpu hsf, but I still get the same thing, the led flash's once and then everything shuts off. Some one I know figures it's the motherboard or powersupply, but I doubt the powersupply, as if it was the powersupply my fans, including the cpu fan would get power and attempt to turn on. I also don't think it's the motherboard, as if it was my motherboard, my cpu fan wouldn't even attempt to power on either. I'm not overclocking either, as I don't exactly believe in overclocking.

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 I'm going to take my cpu in to the store I bought it from, and have them rma the cpu tomorrow. If it turns out that there are no more E6600's even on RMA, I'm going to have the store see if Intel will send out the equvilent cpu, even if the cpu be a quad core, or even the E6700 which I found out will work on my motherboard. It's turning out that I shouldn't have blamed that 3870X2 right away, and I may still have the store I got the 3870X2 from rma the 3870X2 for the overheating problem, even though I have two Sapphire Radeon 3870's in my system now, and keep the rmaed 3870X2 as a spare videocard, or if I decide to up and build another desktop system.

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 Most likely it is your power supply. It might be that the CPU and VR LED's flash once upon initial power up to test they are working. Usually the CPU has to be on for a few seconds to reach a hot enough temp. If it is the CPU call Intel support and get a new one. I would also try moving the BIOS jumper to 2&3 and see if it can make it into BIOS. Possible your FSB or CPU voltage is way out of wack. Or leave the jumper completely off and see if it stays on searching for a floppy or removable drive. Another trick for the PS is to remove all connectors from the power supply. Short the green wire #4 on the 24pin PS connector to the black wire #6 (you just skip one wire on the connector.) This will make your power supply turn on with out it attached to anything. You can then check your +5/+12VDC on one of the Molex connectors with a multi-meter. Last edited by Sandog : 09-25-2008 at 09:57 PM. |

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 Can't even do that, the cpu led flash's quick, as the fans are starting to powerup, and then that's it. I don't even have a multi meter, and I'm not even brave enough to go messin with the powersupply. I have doubt's it's the powersupply, because if it was the powersupply, the fans in my system, including the cpu fan and the videocards wouldn't even turn on. I'm only going to say this once and once only, I don't overclock and never did on this board, so how can it be the FSB voltage is out of whack or the cpu voltage being out of whack, as I never messed with that stuff and never will. I'm starting to suspect that the last motherboard I had, the ASUS P5N32-E SLI board, messed up my cpu, but I never realized it, as when I had that board, I had a lot of trouble. I prove it, as I sold that board months ago, and that board did some weird things on me, and this includes the voltages on the ASUS board being messed up.

| Re: CPU LED on 975XBX2 It turns out after I took my tower in to the store I got every thing from that my cpu is dead. There is nothing wrong with my motherboard or powersupply. My Core 2 Duo E6600 is now being rmaed to Intel, and the replacement will be here in 24 to 48 hours.
