You MUST reset the BIOS after installing the battery! Locate CLRTC on the mobo and short out the (very short) pins

Even if you do manage to flash the BIOS you still have to reset it afterwards.
Resetting the BIOS is known to clear a multitude of sins!

And no, you can't it boot from a USB device!

zli,
-Download the manual: ftp://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...cusl2c-104.pdf. Print the appropriate pages as suggested below.
-Reset CMOS as suggested by Monkey Hanger. For the location of the CLRTC, consult the manual, page 14.
-Purchase and install a floppy-drive. Price approx. Can $ 15-20. Consult page 33 of the manual
-Download the appropriate BIOS-update, unzip the file and save the BIOS-update file on your desktop
-For updating the BIOS, follow instructions in the manual, page 45 and up

Page 14 is what I used to try to find the CLRTC. I looked at the whole space to the right of the battery, above the long panel, below the floppy/IDEs.

If any of you have time (and the board), maybe you can show me where it is on page 13 or at least tell me what colour it (or its surroundings) is.

By very short pins, you mean that they are shorter than, say JEN? Are they also surrounded by black stuff? I will try to look for them again tonight.

Btw, for those who are wondering, I have the non-audio version of the board.

Actually, these two images I've googled are probably better for seeing the CLRTC but I still can't find them (on the images).

Oops, can't post urls yet. Its the second result if you google images for cusl2-c (should be a 1280 x 960 pixels image)

Also, should I short these pins with power off or on?

I´m not 100% sure, but i think on my CUSL2-C the CLRTC "pins" aren´t really pins but pads (small solder spots). CLRTC should be written on the board near to those pads.

Greetings

Dru

P.S.: Page 14 of the manual indicates the position very good.

Consult page 57 "forgot the password'.
Actually you'll find 2 solder point (NO pins!!), horizontally placed along the edge of the motherboard NOT vertically as in the manual. You can reset it by using a paperclip (but BE carefull avoiding damage to your motherboard).

PLEASE POWER OFF YOUR SYSTEM COMPLETELY (disconnect mainpower!!) prior resetting the CMOS.

I've just shorted my CLRTC (I think).

So first, with a magnfying class in one hand and a resistor whose end connection are twisted, I shorted the two points inside "squares" which are nearest to the letters "CLRTC" on the motherboard. I shut the power and unplugged the cord before doing this. I move the ends of the metal "pins" of the resistor to the ends of the "square"/round pads. I remove the resistor and turned the power back on. My CPU speed was set to 500mhz and I got a floppy, keyboard and CMOS checksum error at the bootup screen. I went into the BIOS and set the CPU speed to 1000mhz (from manual). BUT, I saw that the time and date were NOT reset. Is this normal?

I then saw DutchBBQ's message and shut the power and did the same things as above but with the horizonal ones along the edge of the board. When I turned the power back on, nothing changes (CPU speed was still at 1000mhz, etc).

If you reply within the next few minutes, I will still be here and checking the board.

zli,
on my cusl2-c board, I've seen only 2 solder points. May be there are differences in motherboard revisions.
I've never used the reset option of the CMOS although I've updated the BIOS a couple of times (it seems to me YEARS ago).

Suggestion: just update the BIOS right now to the latest version.
Then, Inform us whether your problems have been solved or not.

Hi Geoff
thanks for your kind wishes!! I have a CUSL2-C that I've just installed. Booted into BIOS OK. But then attempted to make BIOS settings, probably incrorrect, and rebooted, after which nothing, absolutely nothing. No splash screen, no BIOS nothing. Can you help?
Many thanks & best wishes
Roy

Do a reset as described above. Read the manual on how to reset if you feel it's necessary.

Wow....I popped in here and was happy to see CUSL2 posts... I'm still using my own as secondary PC and it's G R E A T!

I use on of these FC-PGA2 Tualatin Adapter for Socket 370 FC-PGA Motherboard - PcPartsCollection.com to allow a 'Tualatin' type of P3 processor in my CUSL2 board. (I got my adaptor on Ebay for a few $$ from a nice HongKong seller.

I've had no isssues running a 1.3 or 1.4Ghz Tualatin Celeron and overclocked both to 1.6Ghz (just), also use good memory helps.

I found that using an earlier BIOS didn't identify the Tualatins correctly but they worked correctly, using the last BIOS from Asus and the Celeron 1.4 is ID'd as a P3 1.4Ghz.

Hi spanner!

Nice to meet other members here who still use their CUSL's.

My CUSL2-C is still my main rig.
Using a modded Tualatin 1.4-S processor @ 1.6 GHz (153 MB FSB) most of the time. Good memory (that can do 2-2-2-5-7 timing @153 MHz) and the tweaked version of Asus latest bios (1012beta, tweaked that FSB > 140 MHz won't reset AGP to 2x etc. etc.)

Greetings

Dru

WOW! It's like the old CUSL2 days.
My TUSL2C is still running for my daughter and still folding for Team-CUSL2! My CUSL2 still works fine, just not being used at the moment.

PeterT!

I still fire mine up about once a week, it's got XP Home on it now. But, I no longer run anything on it. I tend to try out downloads on it before installing on my main rig.

And, before anyone jumps in about folding, power is just TOO expensive here to do that alone!

Hey Peter !!!

My CUSL2-C runs win98se.

Why screw around with a win98 game anywhere else.
