if you by chance have flashed your bios and come up with an error and then accidently rebooted, as i did, and then realized that your bios is dead don't throw it out. what u do is call asus at 1-510-739-3777 they wil tell you what to do, I talked to them for like about 5 minutes, they gave me an RMA #, connected me to tech support and because the board has a three year warranty on it the only cost to me was the shipping. They told me that i'd be getting it back in about 2 to 3 weeks, so i'll message you guys back with details. l8r

| Umm. took me a month to get my cusl2 back..and it's a new one. Came today. Sorry to tell you, but they'll be having your mobo "in service" for three-four weeks and then if you call after that, they'll say "I guess we'll just send a new one to you..." VERY VERY ****TY TECH SUPPORT!

I have resuscitated several mobos killed by improper flashing though not a cusl2 yet. Remove ALL adapter cards. Connect your monitor to the onboard video. If your mobo doesn't have onboard video try using a PCI video adapter - this could be a show stopper - I've successfully used a plain ISA VGA adapter but cusl2 has no ISA slots! Boot from a floppy and reflash the BIOS. Good Luck!

What is the point of telling us what you did with another board, this is about the CUSL2 it has no boot block that is gonna flash the bios if it is damaged. If the flash fails the CUSL2 is dead. Don't flash your CUSL2, especially since Asus isn't even telling you what the bios updates are for.

The point is .... it might work! And it's certainly easier than ripping out the mobo and shipping it off to be repaired/replaced - you can always get to that later, right? JohnS says "CUSL2 it has no boot block" and "if the flash fails the CUSL2 is dead". So, JohnS, where does this info come from? Any references? Thanks!

A friend of mine ended up with a dead CUSL2 board after a bad Bios flash...What he did was to remove his AGP vidcard and all other PCI cards (since the bad flash rendered his AGP and PCI slots useless) and solely relied on the CUSL2's onboard video... By using the onboard video, he was able to reflash his Bios chip with the use of a DOS boot disk with a BIOS flasher and his previous Bios file. He just ran a flash command line from the autoexec.bat of the boot disk and his bios was automatically reflashed... I guess that the bios chip needs to detect a video signal b4 it even allows the floppy drive to search for a boot disk and for the flasher to do its work...The on-board video will allow this while a AGP vidcard on a bad flash-rendered-useless AGP slot won't... I guess those w/o on-board video (CUSL2-C) don't have this option available to them...

whoa three years ago I posted this.... I can't even recall doing it... did this site change names or something? well, yes the mobo should be able to boot even if the bios dies. All you need is another computer to prepare BIOS flash disk with some autoexec.bat config (that I completely forgot now )This should be the same with at least all award bios'es, and guess which bios the cusl uses?
