| big difference. A cusl2 is an older motherboard not produced by Asus anymore. It's the reason this website came into existence A TUSL2 uses an i815ep chipset I think and it supports the TUALATIN which is a 13 micron cpu. You would be better off with the TUSL2. Tam

| also, the TUSL2 will take either the coppermine PIIIs or the newer Tulatin PIIIs, the CUSL2 will only take the Coppermines. CU = coppermine TU = tulatin

| My CUSL2 died and I was wondering what were the benefits of getting the TUSL2 apart from being able to use the Tualatin CPU's.

| Hmmm, OK let's get specific. Lets refer to the TUSL2-c as that's what I'd probably get (it cost £88 as opposed to the £133 I paid for the CUSL2!) 1. I presume I will still have to do the wire trick on it to get over the cold boot problem and that the pins will be the same. 2. Does it have 3 or 2 dimms slots? 3. I vaguely recall something about APIC (I think) that the TUSL2 can handle but the CUSL2 can't. What is this and how much benefit would I feel from it?

| TUSL2 ----- has on-board video (same as CUSL2) TUSL2-C--- no on-board video Answers to your questions: 1) Don't know the answer for this one. 2) Has 3 DIMM slots - still can only use a max of 512Mb memory. 3) APIC = Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller. It allows the OS access to 24 interrupts instead of 16 as with the old system. It's supported by Win2k and WinXP. You have to enable it in the BIOS and before you install the OS. Or enable it and reinstall the OS I'm not sure if the TUSL2 supports APIC. Check the notes for the latest bios releases to determine if APIC is supported. |
