GA-X48-DQ6 not booting from DVD...

I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come regarding my first foray since the 90's into the world of Taiwanese motherboards, but we can't get this new board to boot off the DVD reader.
We've confirmed it's not a bad disc - as we've tried to boot off our old XP Pro disc with no success.
We've taken every hard drive out of the boot sequence and disabled them, yet the board still boots off the HD and goes into the XP desktop.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Guess I should add that we're attempting to perform a clean install of Vista Business 64.

Ha...it was the Ideazon gaming keyboard. Once we plugged in an old PS/2 keyboard we had lying around it booted.

The most obvious is the DVD set to boot first in the bios? Also is the DVD player working ok? Have you tried a different DVD reader?

Yeah, I've had that happen a few times.

Spend time trying to find the problem, just to find ya need an old PS/2 keyboard to get er to work.

I should have suspected it when the keyboard didn't work initially. But once the driver for it loaded it began to type. It's only at the part of the sequence where you're asked to hit any key to boot from the DVD (before the driver is loaded) that it failed.
Mrs. TQ and I were thinking it was a bad board and were one step away from returning it when she mentioned the keyboard. We switched it out and it worked.

TQ -- On my GA-EX38-DQ6, at least with default bios settings, the p/s2 keyboard and mouse ports are kept powered up even when the computer is turned off (I guess so that the keyboard or mouse can awaken the computer from standby, or something like that). Assuming your mobo is similar, you should disconnect the ac to the computer before connecting or disconnecting anything from the p/s2 ports -- they are not hot pluggable the way usb is. Or else go into the bios and change the relevant settings, if possible (I haven't looked into that).
