Unhappy Help with P4C800-E and audigy2 pls??

hi guys,

well i've had this strange problem with both my previous IS7-E and now my mighty P4C800-E, often whenever I run either:

CTIAW
CPU-Z
h-oda W-CPUID

my computer will lock up completely, or sometimes with ctiaw rather than locking my puter up it will just cause everything to run very slowly.

I've found that either removing my audigy2 or disabling it in device manager solves the problem, i have tried the card in all my pci slots but it hasn't fixed the prob.

any ideas pls?

thanks.

I have a P4C800-E and an Audigy 2 also. I ran CPU-Z the other day just fine. Have you installed the latest drivers for the Audigy? I did what Creative told me. Use the install CD and then run the update from the web. Also, I do a drivers only install.

I actually do the full install from the CD but the very next thing I do is update all the drivers. Audigy 2 came out before the Canterwood and those newer drivers seem to alleviate some of the problems.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

It's still doing it though, as i say running those programs doesn't lockup it up everytime but about 2in5 it will induce lockup and 1in10 it will turn my machine into an instant 286 with 1k ram until i reboot (which takes 5mins due to the slowness).

I have now re-installed the card into slot 5, reinstalled the drivers and updated them to the latest, the card is using IRQ 21 all by itself so it can't be a conflict. I have also reset my computer to default clocks and safe settings to rule out overclocking etc. The audigy is causing it but i'm clueless as to why.

Talking

SORTED!!!! (touch wood)

guys, I have disabled the "ich(?) delayed transaction" and the "spread spectrum" settings in the bios and i now have 37 ctiaws open and 51 cpu-z all launched in quick succession WITH NO LOCKUP!

So one of those is to blame i guess.

Just to let you all know for if someone finds this thread in future with a similar problem...

i just tested to see which particular setting was at fault and it was the 'ICH Delayed Transaction' setting causing it, the moment i enable it i get total lockups running those programs again.

Hope this thread may be of use to people in future.

Cheers.

Thanks, Mikeyyy! That is great news and something for me to remember for future help. BTW: What bios version were you using-that will be useful to know as well.

Good job on the troubleshooting.

I'm pretty sure im using the latest bios 1011, although 80009 keeps popping up here and there but i've been told that the 80009 is the AMI chip version? it definitely says 1011 on start-up.

it is a Rev 2 board as well.

Cheers.

edit: i meant 80009, getting confused hehe.. im definitely using latest 1011.

Don't worry about this. It's a bios bug.

I haven't encountered any probs or performance drop using 1011 bios.
I'm using P4C800 though.
