Of course that became a joke when after a year and a half Creative was still running the same drivers. (I replaced that X-Gamer with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and I never looked back...) What we miss with A3D being gone was the best positional audio API out there. It was a revelation when I first fired up Jedi Knight-Dark Forces II running with a Xitel A3D card and heard shots fired from above and behind me... and actually heard that...clearly. I'm no fan of Creative's EAX reverb. To my ears it's heavy handed and unnatural sounding. Too much length and density. It's amusing to me that the Santa Cruz's implementation of EAX is more natural sounding that Creative's. Is Sensaura better postional audio than A3D? No, but it's the best I've heard since A3D went away. I'll admit I'm curious about the Audigy's power of "blending" environmental sounds, but I'm in no hurry to replace my Santa Cruz. Uh, are we off topic? Last edited by TQ : 04-18-2002 at 09:25 PM.

| When we have facts about our opinions ,we are always in the topic . I have one question about the SB sound cards ,that i am sure 100% that there is no answer . How much money must pay some one ,so to get the latest SB flagship with hardware Equalizer on it ?? Believe it or not ,the Aureal was the first company in this planet ,that gave to the people sound cards with many potentials ,and in very low price . TQ do not try to convince people , who they have never listen the Helicopter demo ,or any other A3D demo , i forgive them , just because they do not know , how superior was the A3D API than anything other that we have ever see ,even in our days |

| Well, I remember that demo. It was pretty good. I don't think that Creative is that good... My choice would be a TB Santa Cruz, but I don't have the money right now. I don't think my next sound card will be a Creative. I'm pretty happy with my SB Live! though... Yes, I guess we are off-topic! |

Don't challenge people's pre-conceptions! Dissent is not tolerated. At least over at 3D Sound Surge, which is an otherwise pretty cool resource for game related audio.

| Well, in its earlier incarnation as the Intel Storage Driver it completely hosed my system. So badly that I had to reformat and reinstall Win2k Pro. It never recognized my CD-RW and was generally a mess. That being said, I took the plunge and gave the IAA beta a try (after a careful read of the errata) and have been happy with the way it shaved a good twenty seconds of my Win2k boot times on both my computers. |
