| I've never installed any of the Intel Application Accelerator DMA Drivers. Do these really offer any performance benefit over the Microsoft DMA drivers that come with Windows? I've heard both ways, but am reluctant to install them, as I have a very stable system right now, and would hate to ruin a good thing.

| If your machine is stable and you're pleased with how fast it is, then I wouldn't risk screwing it up, especially with drivers officially designated as "beta". Don't "fix" what ain't broke!!!! I'm running XP Pro on a P4T-E with a 1.6a OC'ed to 2.13GHz and have the stock drivers that came in the O/S and am getting PCMark and Sandra numbers right up there with the highest being reported by anyone in the forums. I think I'll leave it alone and just enjoy running and using this wonderfully fast and stable new machine for awhile |

| Nick is quite correct to suggest caution, and I have had some catastrophic problems with the forerunner to the IAA (known as the Intel Storage Driver) but these new IAA's have resulted in a noticably quicker boot time for Windows 2000 Professional. If you're running XP, I'd suggest you don't use them, as XP is squirrely enough as it is. If you do decide to use them, BEFORE you install the IAA, be very certain you take your system out of overclock and back to defaults and disable any anti-virus software you might be running. But if you're happy with the way things are currently working, that's a good place to be. |

| I'm running IAA 2.1 and have not experienced any issues on any of my 4 machines running XP Pro. I have always used Intel's "Storage Driver" (as it used to be called) and their newer Application Accelerators. They are very stable (for me) and have offered great driver performance.

| I've used it for a long time with no problems, but now that I did a fresh install of windows I didn't install it this time and I got faster performace just using regular DMA. So I think I'll just leave it this way. Although I did like that little compainon program that came with it. |

| It looks that INTEL was very happy that the 2.1 works that good ,so they jump in the 2.2 ver .. And all this in less than 20 days time , it looks that the INTEL developers they do not have time ,even go to the bathroom At list they really do a good job !! I will wait for the 2.2 final , the 2.1 does a very good job . |

Nvidia have use memmory address in their drivers that belong to other devices , that's why now that INTEL finaly makes their 815E chips smarter ( By software) , they take back their resorces , and the Nvidia cards stack . Same story had happens with VIA chips ,and there was ,and still is, many problems with sound cards and other hardware . Just for your information ,Nvidia have writen special version of their drivers to manage and find , a better support and cooperation with the VIA hardware . Drivers is all about , and there is no any INTELs fault, in this story . The video card makers sood follow the standarts ,that the chipset makers like INTEL create . | I have been very dissapointed so far Quote:
So far every time I have tried any chipset driver update in Win98SE and WinME it really mess my system and also makes it slower. Anyway when something works ok and stable then don`t mess with it.If you have ME then D/L the update for Restore Operation from MS (sorry no link, was out about in October 2001) to have Restoration work properly and be sure you create a restore point just in case any "Application Accelator" makes its usual mess and slower operation. My advice is not mess with it in WinME or W2K SP2 as long as your chipset is supported already.

yes that´s all true i can agree with all u wrote. the best is if windows supports the chipsets immediatelly Intel 440BX and win98se is a very stabel system!!! Win98se and 815 chipsets for exampel needs the inf drivers. but than it´work also good intel inf driver are MUCH more better than Via 4in1!!!!!!!!! the IAA is only a addition but IT`S not NECASSERY!!!! I have installed it on my Win98se system and and i CAN´t uninstalled it correctly anymore. and i have installed all i need on my system!!! 3 days of installion FOR THE CAT i contact Intel and i hope they can help me and another boardmember here. if not i have to all reinstalled but this time without IAA!!! :/ a little tip of mine. use Norton ghost 2002. this is a really usefull tool. You canmake an image of your Windows. If it doesn´t work than u can write the image back under 10 minutes and your Windows is Really like it is before. I think it´s bettern than the restort thing of Winme or WinXP just try it... I just save my c: in d:\1Images it´s very comfortable bye tester2002
