Damn straight!

When in "DOS Mode" or in the motherboard’s BIOS, all kinds of anomalous things happen. Such as when I type a command, the keys are repeated. For example, the "I" key will be repeated such as this diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir. Or, when in the BIOS, if I select an option, it simply scrolls through or will not work.

Now, my two-hard drive stripe group keeps failing. If I shut down the machine for a few minutes, the system may or may not operate. The most frustrating aspect of this is that there is no consistency with these problems. One minute everything’s is groovy, and the next minute, it’s vomiting on me and speaking in tongues...

There is a problem with the D875PBZ and we are simply experiencing Chipzilla's noted errata. The reason those review websites have not reported any oddities with this board, is simply, they run “bare” configurations. Load the D875PBZ with peripherals and an abundance of software applications and it would be a very different story. At the very least, there is something going on with the USB support on this board.

Well shucks.. I just got back from church, fired up the computer.. and what did I have???? CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad error. So P06 won't work either. Bummer.....

Looks like P05 is the only BIOS revision that will work on my board. Yuck.

Does anyone know if the 865PERL main board works any better than this one, or are they all buggy?

If you have no USB 2.0 devices there is no reason to have USB high speed set. Use USB 1.1 and disable USB legacy and USB boot device.

Casey --

Is it possible to disable the on-board audio via the BIOS with your 865?

Skoone1 you can dl the manual for the perl and it will show you all the bios settings if you are interested in this board.

I'll pop in and give a few props to my 875PBZ.

Yes, at first I had trouble when I wanted to flash from the (original) P05 BIOS to the new P08 BIOS. With the newly-flashed P08 I had reboot issues, tried a bunch of stuff to fix it and ended up starting a thread about it in the BIOS forum (R.I.P.!). I finally got it successfully flashed to P08 and since then (about two weeks now) everything's been running absolutely bullet-proof.

My config is:

-BIOS - P08

-2 x 512MB Mushkin Level II PC3200 @ 6-2-3-3

-USB Legacy Support "off"

-Running at default speed.

I have an external USB 2.0 burner and an external Firewire HDD that are working just fine. I run in "DOS" and access the BIOS on a daily BIOS and have no issues doing either. The OS is 100% stable, I never have any reboots or BSODs. It's run 24 hrs of 2xPrime95 and 24hrs of Memtest86 (all eleven tests with the cache on). I have absolutely "zero" problems with this system.

Yeah, I think something's fishy about the BIOSes that Intel's written for this board. I've flashed/used hundreds of BIOSes over the years and never had to jump through hoops to get one running like I did with P08. It acts like a beta or a hack-job.

Yes, there's also memory issues but I put that down partly to the general, industry-wide 876/865 Dual Channel memory problems and partly to the lack of Vdimm adjustment on this board.

Otherwise it's just another great, stable Intel board.

I totally agree with you Ralf

I think BIOS P09 must have done something right with regards to memory...I'm now running my Mushkin PC3500 Black (Level 1 they didn't have levels when I purchased it) at 2,3,2,6 and that's after 3 hours of memtest running error free, and TQ is running 2,2,2,6 with his Mushkin PC3200 level 2.

I'm starting to believe that:

a) The P09 BIOS file on the intel web site is defective somehow

or

b) There are different revisions of this main board, some of which can't digest P09 properly. I cannot locate a revision number of any sort on the board..

But I find it curious that some people are having luck with the board while others can't get it to do squat. Strange stuff indeed. Makes me thankful that this is just one of my hobbies and not something that I'd depend on to put bread on the table!!

Steve
