Hi Steve,

There IS a revision number on the board, and I seem to recall someone on here actually posted a picture of it!

It is enclosed in a hexagon just above the memory slots, and below the chipset. They seem to be all '02' now, but some folks may have earlier '01' boards... anyone?

I am sure Intel changed the 09 BIOS file on the site, after they first put it up... well the Iflash (floppy) one anyway, which is dated a day later than the other two!

The first one wouldn't all fit on to a single floppy, and the current one runs under 'Freedos' or something, although I did manage to install it OK.

Haven't got round to actually installing Windows XP yet, as I want to get the board stable under 'DOS' first!

Like Paragon said, the Desktop Control Center ought to be out in a few weeks. I would imagine we would have to have a new bios as well. I would love to be able to OC this board some more.

I kinda got it pictured in my mind that this utility will be something very much akin to Gigabyte's Easy Tune...LINK.

It will work in Windows and not directly in the BIOS as Easy Tune does...a much needed utility if Intel does it right, but given the latest BIOS problems that may take 2-3 iterations to occur.

I just hope that Intel sees the same problems that we are seeing and is working on a solution. Were an enthusiast crowd so If were having these problems that means alot of other people must be having them as well. From as many recent complaints as I've read in here Intel must be having OEM boards coming back left and right.

@David Rolfe

Not just someone - it was me :-))

Unfortunately I am not able to find my thread about this PCB-revision.

Therefore I have attached another picture of a D875PBZ showing the rev. As you wrote, it is the number in the hexagon ( I have drawn the red circle around it). The example is showing 01, allmost all boards should now be 02.

Apologies for that Tschugaschwilly... I knew I had seen it before, but I can't find half the threads which I am sure were there before they 're-organised' all the forums!

Thanks for posting it again anyway!

Anybody have the solution to the SB Audigy 2 problem. I have been trying to install this cards drivers for the last two days. They won't install properly. Device is not working properly and can not get updates from Creative's site. Happened after I installed WinXP and after PO9 update. Thanks.

Tell you what Sandog.. I'll trade you a fully functional SB Audigy 2 for just one blessed bios that will work!

My SB A2 works like a champ. In fact it's working the best it ever has. In fact (again) every piece of hardware I have works the best it ever has on this board. But every BIOS hoses up except for P05. And P05 keeps bleeping at me everytime things start up, so it too sees something it doesn't like. I have tried P06 thru P09. Every one gives Checksum Bad errors. If I don't mind retyping the BIOS values every time I start my computer, I have it made!!!

Geez.....

Regards,
Steve

I ended up RMAing my board, I should get it back sometime this week. I am curious to see the results.

That I am, but I'm still getting spontaneous reboots. They seem to follow a pattern of heavy audio and video use.
I get the reboots during Cool Edit Pro recording sessions and I just had one right after watching the full screen Quicktime trailer for Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World.

Ralf and I must be the lone wolves here:eek:

I haven't had an issue with this board in the recent past (over a week) since I went to BIOS P09 and changed my hard drives to cable select!

Hey TQ, this is no resolution to your inherent MOBO problems but if you are into heavy A/V usage you may want to try relocating your paging file (I assume you are using WIN98,2K, or XP.) to a seperate HD. Optimally it is a HD not on the same controller as the system HD. It's just a thought. I can email you the instructions I used for it or look for the tech tips&tweaks by Dave Laborde HERE It has worked well for me and it helped way back in the Athlon 750 days and eliminated some HD related playback errors.

Just a thought. Mike

And I appreciate that thought, specmike. I do have my game machine's pagefile set (and fixed at 1024MB) on a different, physical HD from the one on which my OS resides.
Unfortunately, my workstation's second physical drive is a 5400rpm drive and therefore slower than the one on which the OS resides.
I do have the pagefile on a different partition, but relocating it on a different drive isn't feasible for now.
In the fall we're donating most of my game machine to one of my nephews but I'll be holding onto my Audigy 2 and my Western Digital 120MB/8 MB cache HD. That HD will migrate to my workstation and only then will I be able to move the pagefile to a faster drive.
While I appreciate the thought I don't believe that the location of the pagefile is the cause of my instabilities. I didn't have these issues on my PIII/i815 based system.

Goin' back to the factory!

Well guys, I have RMA'ed my D875. I cannot come up with any explanations as to why the board won't take BIOS flashes properly, and the floppy drive remains erratic to just plain unusable. And I can't have this, not for the price paid. I hope the next board will be a bit more reliable than the last. If not, then it will be safe to say no more intel boards (or products) for me.
