Well I set mine the very first time to 32K striping. From what I have heard here on the boards this is the best. I never changed it as I got good performance. My thoughts on why Intel specifies 128K stripe is that Intel see's this board as a workstation platform where its uses would be in handling large file transfers such as CAD, Video, 3D objects, etc. I use it for gaming mostly.

You'll be able to run XP on a grantsdale board... (it will not support all the benefits of PCI Express ... but it can use it).

Grantsdale will be out only on the 2nd quarter, it could be earlier only if Intel feels some threat from AMD...

One other benefit of grantsdale is the availability of 4 SATA ports on the ICH6/ICH6-R southbridge.

Oh ... by that time we will probably see the launh of a new form factor ... BigWater... so you night prepare for a new case upgrade to replace your ATX ...

I dun know... the more I read the more confused I am as to what to choose... I want a mobo that will give me good gaming performance and good Photoshop/3DSMAX performance as well. Also i want the mobo to last until pci express is well implemented (i.e. I don’t upgrade every 3 months etc.).

D875PBZ sounds and looks great yet so do the P4C800e and the 8knxp as well as the ic7g ... I dun know I have never been as confused as to what to get. i guess i should stop reading reviews close my eyes and choose one...

What do you think?

The performance is faster with 16KB strip size. Same as reported by most tech sites that review the ICH5R. I've also done some frustrating day long testing. I found 128KB to be pretty disappointing with everything except Sandra, and even Sandra sometimes.. but I think Sandra is reporting inaccurate scores.

I get higher scores than that with 16 and after everything is loaded and finalized on my system.

I know the feeling isomer. This is just my humble opinion but I dont think Canterwood /Springdale are done cookin' yet

Sure theres lots of people with stable systems for the most part, but we also have OS kernel problems with Hyperthreading, a world of RAM where you need to pick and choose carefully, and nearly every Canterwood with some manner of BIOS bug that still needs ironed out.

If someone is looking for a no questions asked bug free system to build for the average Joe, Im still thinkin i845PE/GE. For me, my solution as to which Canterwood to get is "None Of The Above." LOL Im fine waiting awhile longer as these companies and fine beta testers in online forums work out the final straggling bugs

Well if you don't believe in O'C your hardware to its limits and want the best compatability, support, and stability then go with the Intel board. I think it is also pretty cheap right now. My second choice would be the newer Asus PC800 then the Abit IC-7G. I can already O'C my Intel to 416MHz and I can also custom set the memory timings. I get 19252 in 3Dmark2001SE when I O'C my video card. I have seen people O'C their boards to 450MHz and only scored about 400 points more than me. It is plenty fast in games. I've seen peeks of 300FPS in UT2003 at 1024x768 32bit.

I have no slow down in WinXP due to having hyperthreading enabled. I already checked into this problem and it has nothing to do with the Intel board. MS is suppose to address this problem in WinXP SP2. My board has worked well since the first BIOS. The first bios was picky about memory modules with low latency. I used Corsair PC3500 from the beginning so I had no problems. Now I think people are using 3200LL. I'm am now using bios P07, the fourth update and bug fixes seem to be for minor issues.

I got my board very early and when I did I read a write-up by Promethius(sp?). He did an indepth analysis of the ICH5R with Raptors and his benchies showed no difference hardly between 16K and 32K. Between what was posted in this forum and what I found at stroragereview.com I went with 32K and would do it again if I had to. I've only installed WinXP one time on my system.

Here's my month old ATTO score again:

..and here is a fresh ATTO score a guy got on a new D865PERL with 16K stripe on ICH5R and two Raptors in RAID 0:

He has a 2.4GHz P4 and I have a 3.0GHz P4. My scores seem better.

Hmm.. I had much higher ATTO scores with 16KB strip size than both of the ones in the screenshots...

The 865 board is different from the D875.. so I wouldn't compare. In fact ICH5R performance is very much different across all different 875P/ICH5R boards.. I used to have an IC7-G and I got very different results with certain strip sizes.

I bet you will get significantly higher scores with the 16KB strip size on D875PBZ.
